Known as a popular location for Hollywood’s 1940’s and 50’s Westerns, Gallup is a desert town featuring several parks and pooch-friendly destinations. Populated by a wide variety of Native Americans, Fido and his family can spend time exploring the High Desert Trail System and the Zuni Mountain Trails in the nearby Red Rock Park. Although the trails are widely used by mountain bikers, well-behaved pups are often seen hiking up and over the rocks and enjoying the scenery. The Gallup Brickyard Bike Path is also a great place to spend time with your pooch. Use the Mesa Street access and let your pup get some vigorous exercise.

Located in the center of town near Father Dunston Park, the City of Gallup Dog Park is an awesome location to spend time with Fido. The park is separated into two areas, one for small pups and one for larger dogs. There is a walking path around the park where pup parents can get in some laps while the pooch shows off his skills on the agility equipment. After getting some exercise, relax on one of the benches and let Fido socialize with other pups in the park. Poop bags are provided and there is water available to make sure your pooch stays hydrated.
Bubany Park is located off North 2nd Street and offers a wonderful area to walk Fido. You can stroll along the walkways and soak in the sunshine while your pup sniffs all the plants. The kids will enjoy the playground and the full basketball court, or if you need a rest, find one of the shaded picnic tables and relax with a cold bottle of water. There are convenient restrooms, but you will need to bring your own doggie waste bags for your pooch. A couple minutes north of the park, you can enjoy some Italian food and ice cream at Fratellie’s. The friendly staff will bring your pup a bowl of cool water while you eat at the outdoor tables.

Mossman Park is located off Julie Drive in the eastern section of Gallup. If your pup needs to run off some excess energy, take a walk to this quaint neighborhood area where your pooch can frolic in the grass and spend some time smelling the trees. The kids will also enjoy running around on the playground. This park is well-maintained, so make sure to bring your own waste bags and clean up after your pup.
