Sandia Park
Bernalillo County Dog Park will have your hound howling! It’s the only dog park around San Antonito. Just take the quick trip north to the off-leash heaven. It’s a part of the Vista Grande Community Center, which has a host of facilities along with the dog park. The wide-open, sizable park has plenty of room to roam but very little shade. This might suit your pooch all right, but don’t forget water in case either of your get hot. If you go between the months of April and October, there will be water provided; otherwise, you need to come equipped. There aren’t many rules for this park. Just clean up after your beloved canine and make sure they play nice. It’s open dawn until dusk everyday.36

Eagle Ridge
Looking for a beautifully brewed seasonal beer? The Ale Republic provides the perfect lunch date for you and your pooch. Relax at one of their dog-friendly outdoor tables. Try a Parasol, one of their fresh fruity brews with a grainy wheat finish to satisfy your taste buds on a hot day. Like a beer that’s Tall Dark and Handsome? Well, you’re in luck because that is one of their best brews! The Belgian dark stone fruit and caramel pair well together in this malt forward beer. They also offer several other options. The pub is open Monday through Thursday from 2 p.m. until 10 p.m. and Friday through Sunday 12 p.m. until 10 p.m.24

East Mountain Dog Training, located just outside the Village at Bella Vista neighborhood, is the only business that offers training in the area. Whether you think your pooch needs basic or advanced training, East Mountain’s certified dog trainers can help you out. Their philosophy centers on reward-based training. Their goal is for your and your furry loved one to communicate better and be able learn productive skills and behaviors. They offer one-day classes, such as the “Basic Social Skills” course, which allows your dog to improve his manners. They also offer classes that run in series, such as the Rally Ready, which improves you and your hound’s relationship through learning the sport of rally. Most classes last an hour and range from $65 to $125. You can sign up for them online.12

Bernalillo County
Does your pooch love long walks in the mountains? Take your canine on a hike it’ll never forget! Barts Trail will allow you to explore the South Sandia Peak, a part of the beautiful Sandia mountain range, just east of Albuquerque. The trailhead is near Cedar Crest. The 11-mile, hound-friendly hike is what you and your adventurous pup have been waiting for. Enjoy the beautiful landscape, which are usually painted with vibrant wildflowers. There are also several other activities offered along the trail, especially during the best time to go, between May and October. Just be sure to keep you pooch on a leash and clean up after it!
