City Center
The city of Elephant Butte is known for the Dam and Reservoir off the Rio Grande River. The dam is used for agriculture and provides a great place for recreation. You can take your pup hiking around the reservoir or camping at one of the tent sites. Residents and visitors in the area spend time biking and boating here. Pack a picnic basket and relax with snacks and your furry companion. If you are looking for a pooch-friendly place to spend the night, check out the Elephant Butte Inn & Spa. You and Fido are welcome for an extra fee.

Rock Canyon
The Rock Canyon Marina is a great place to spend time with the family and your pooch. There is easy access to the northern portion of the lake, and if your pup loves going out on the boat, he will have a swimtastic time. You can also hikE around the marina and stop at the convenience store for a snack. Situated next to the marina, you will find the Sports Adventure/ Paparoni’s Pizzeria. Pups are allowed on the rented boats, and your pooch may love spending time on a pontoon vessel. You can also order an amazing pizza and take it to go or sit at the outdoor tables with your pooch and enjoy a meal.

North Date Street
Fido will love socializing with furry friends at the Carole Wheeler Dog Park on Date Street in Truth or Consequences. There are separate areas for large and small pups, and the park is maintained by volunteers. You can play a game of fetch with your pooch, or relax on a bench and chat with friends. There are doggie waste bags provided to keep the park clean, and water fountains are perfect for keeping Fido hydrated. Just a couple minutes from the dog park, you can get a sandwich and ice cream at Sumthins. There are outdoor picnic tables where you and Fido can enjoy a snack.

East Riverside Drive
Situated along the Rio Grande River, the Ralph Edwards Park in Truth or Consequences is just a few miles south of Elephant Butte. The park features plenty of shade where you can walk with your pup. Kids will love the playground, and you can hike around the fishing pond and let your pooch have a snifftastic time. If you need a rest, head over to the gazebo and relax on a bench. Pups need to be kept on a leash, but you will probably see friends and neighbors out walking laps and giving Fido some exercise. If you need a pooch-friendly place to spend the night, check out Riverbend Hot Springs motel. Pups are allowed for an extra fee.
Caballo Lake
South of the town of Truth or Consequences, and about 15 miles from Elephant Butte, the Caballo Lake State Park is perfect for camping and hiking with your adventurous pup. Pitch a tent on the beach, or hike up to the mountain peaks for a more energetic trek. The park also features a campground with BBQ grills where you can hang out with friends and their furry companions, and the kids can run around the playground. Take your fishing pole and relax by the lake while Fido rolls around in the grass or sniffs the plants.
