Named after Isaac Scott, Scottsville is a village located in Monroe County, New York. Scottsville is near to the Genesee River and Oatka Creek, and part of the Town of Wheatland, not far away from the city of Rochester. For dog lovers, you will find one animal hospital in Scottsville if you have an emergency with your pup, as well as many other veterinary clinics not too far away in Rochester.
No trip to Scottsville is complete without a trip to Canawaugus Park! This is a pawsome spot in town where you can bring all the family for a fun day out in the sun. Here you will find the Oatka Creek where you often see people fishing and dipping their feet in. What a puptastic way to cool down! When you are with your pooch, you can take a leisurely stroll around the snifftastic pathways and enjoy the green open space offered at Canawaugus Park. This is perfect for playing fetch with your pup’s favorite ball or Frisbee. Since there are plenty of benches, you can also enjoy a peaceful rest and treat with your furry friend. Don’t forget to bring some water and treats!
Every pooch loves a trip to the park, so be sure to stop by Johnson Park when you are in Scottsville! This is a local hotspot for fun and is pawsome for a family day out, with a large playground for the kids, as well as plenty of green grass for your four-legged friend. There is also a pavilion with an outdoor fire pit and picnic tables for enjoying a treat. To exercise your pup, check out the Genesee Valley Greenway. You can wander for miles with your dog, enjoying the sights of the town along the Genesee Valley Canal, and on the old railroad transportation route.
To go on an adventure with your pooch, drive 4.6 miles north west into Churchville! Here you will find the puptastic Black Creek Park, which is sure to have your pup’s tail wagging all day long. There is a pawsome 1,505 acres of land to explore, with sniff-tastic hiking trails through the woodlands, as well as fishing oppawtunities and a playground for the kids. In total, there are five beautiful hiking trails where you can enjoy getting back to nature and catch a glimpse of the varied wildlife that lives here. All pups can be top dog here, as long as they remain on leash.
Only 5.3 miles southeast of Scottsville, you will find the puptown of Rush. This is a pawsome place to visit for a day out with your pooch, especially the sniff-tastic Lehigh Valley Trail, converted rail-trail. This is sometimes known fondly by locals as the Black Diamond Trail after the old railroad’s nickname. This 16 mile trail is sure to stretch your pup’s legs, and winds through woodlands and rural areas. If you get hungry, drop into the Rush Creekside Bar & Grill for some delicious food and relax with your dog at one of the outdoor picnic tables!
If you need a place to stay with your pooch when you are visiting Scottsville, you will find some dog friendly hotels not far away in Beckwith. This neighborhood is located in furiendly Rochester, and is only 6.2 miles northeast of Scottsville. Here you can check in to the Days Inn, where you can enjoy a comfortable stay with two dogs of any size for only a small additional fee. In addition, there is the Microtel Inn by Wyndham where you can feel at home with two pups weighing up to 50 Ibs for a small additional fee per night.
If your pup likes to ruff it, he will love the Brookdale Preserve! This pawsome place is located only 4.4 miles north of Scottsville in Rochester. You can have a ball at the Brookdale Preserve, with beautiful sniff-tastic trails through the wooded wetlands, and open meadows to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. There is plenty of oppawtunity to spot wildlife too, including birds, frogs and geese at the pond. In addition, you will find picnic tables scattered around, where you can enjoy some water and treats with your pooch. All dogs are welcome at Brookdale Preserve, as long as they remain on leash.
