Yukon is a nice, cozy town located on the outskirts of Oklahoma City. It's considered a commuter town for people who work in Oklahoma City but prefer to stay in a less densely populated place. The best part about Yukon is that it's pet-friendly, and home to two off-leash areas as well as pet-friendly hotels, cafes, and three veterinary clinics.
Operated and maintained by Pet&People Humane Society, the dog park at 701 Inva Avenue is an amazing and safe place to bring your pooch for a good run or a set of daily exercises. The park is free to use, but you're welcome to donate some money to support the area for the future! Your pup is welcome to play and sniff out some new friends in one of the fenced areas which are dedicated to small and large pups. There's also an obstacle course here for some training or a little extra fun.
Yukon is home to a really unique dog park. If you've ever traveled long distances with your pooch, you know that it can be hard to find places to stop and stretch your legs. Maybe that's why Yukon's OnCue gas station and convenience store decided to open an 8,000 sq ft. dog park for canine visitors in 2016! This fenced dog park offers a separate area for small pooches, as well as drinking water and agility equipment.
You can find more things to do with Fido just a short drive away in Oklahoma City.
The northern part of Mustang, about 10 miles south of Yukon, is home to a furrific dog park. Mustang Dog Park is a very simple facility, but it's sure to get your dog's tail wagging! The extensive doggie area features a man-made obstacle course, as well as a few benches and shaded spots. This park is perfect for playing ball or fetch alone with your mutt, or letting your pup find some new canine fur-iends. The park is a 5-minute walk from the lake, where Fido can dip his paws and cool off on a hot day! Water is usually available, but may be out of service from time to time, so bring your own just in case.
If you decide to explore Oklahoma City with your pooch, be sure to stop by the Mayview neighborhood. Located within walking distance from Lake
Hefner and right across from Hefner Park, this district features sleepy residential
quarters and a few convenience stores where you can grab a snack. Hefner Park, apart from
being a great place for morning or evening walks, has
a nice surprise for your buddy – OKC PawPark! This doggy heaven is fully fenced and
has designated spots for small and large pups, as well as a convenient
path to the water so Fido can swim!
For adventure seekers and brave explorers, Downtown Oklahoma City is a must-visit place! Start by renting a kayak or a boat in the Boathhouse District and enjoy drifting along the current and picturesque shorelines of the Oklahoma River! Make sure that your pup is wearing a life jacket and is leashed. After all that excitement, relax and unwind at the Myriad Botanical Gardens Dog Park, a small and nicely-maintained area with drinking water spigots, as well as plenty of shade and beautiful flora. Afterward, grab a bite at Jazmoz Bourbon Street Café, which has dog-friendly outdoor tables overlooking Bricktown Canal.
Sometimes, Oklahoma City's surroundings can be better than the city itself, and full of amazing spots for those looking for more fun! South Edmond is a great example of a pet-friendly place on the outskirts of OKC. It's home to a huge dog park located within Bickham-Rudkin Park. Edmond Dog Park features more than 5 acres of off-leash fun, as well as benches, shade, and access to the water so Fido can make a splash! Finish your day with a visit to City Bites, a dog-friendly café with a unique atmosphere, outdoor tables, and quality food. Have you tried their huge homemade cookies yet? If not, you're missing out!
If you want to continue exploring Oklahoma City's surroundings, pay a visit to Del City, where you'll find the remote and serene Ray Tent Park. This park offers plenty of walking paths and enough shade to hide under on a sunny day! Be sure to stop by Wiggly Field Dog Park, located within Ray Tent Park. This 3-acre fenced dog park has all the amenities you'll need, including a cool obstacle course and two sections for small and large pups. Let your pooch explore the pond or sniff out a few new canine companions! This is an off-leash area, but your pup will need to stay on his leash in the main park.
