This city originally had a different name when it was considered a town site in April of 1898. Its original name was Glaze, Oklahoma. Then, after the railroad came through, it was renamed Jones, Oklahoma. This name was given to the town by Luther Aldrich, who named it after his business partner and friend, Charles Jones. Charles Jones went on to become the mayor of Oklahoma City for three terms!
