Brookhaven is a borough in Delaware County. In the past, it was a rural community relying on farming and dairy production. Today, Brookhaven is a pawsome residential community. Since it is only a half hour outside of Philadelphia, local pups have access to big city amenities. It also has its very own veterinary clinic.
What pup doesn’t love a walk in the park? Good thing Brookhaven has some pawsome parks to keep your pooch happy. Leash up your pup and head over to the Brookhaven Memorial Park. The majority of this park is wooded, so your pal can get his fill of nature. Be sure to stop by the park’s memorial that honors our service men and women.
Eaton Park is another forested park in the area that your pup will love. This natural space has plenty of new smells for your pup to discover. He can search for the perfect stick while getting in some doggy cardio.
After your walk, stop by Rita’s Italian Ice for a refreshing treat. Try a unique creation like Fudge Brownie Cream Ice, Strawberry Frozen Custard, or Coconut Cream Blendini. The best part about this place is the walk up window. Your pooch can help you decide which frozen delicacy to order. No wonder dogs give Brookhaven two paws up!
Upland Park is nestled in the neighboring community of Upland. With over 60 acres to explore, this park will keep your canine companion busy. Leashed dogs are welcome to roam around and discover what this park has to offer. For a bit of nature, follow the trails through the groves of trees. No doubt your pal will pick up the scent of some little critters. If she likes feeling the grass beneath her paws, wander around the large open lawn area. The park also features a playground and softball fields. A trip to this park will definitely make your pup’s tail wag!
If your pup has a green paw, be sure to check out Taylor Arboretum. Located in Nether Providence Township, this beautiful park is owned by the nearby Widener University. Immerse yourself in nature as you walk through groves of trees and through open meadows. Your dog will love getting her exercise in such a magnificent setting. A network of trails weaves through the grounds and takes you to pawsome places like Perennial Garden, Meditation Grove, and West Woods. Pick up a self-guided walking brochure so your pooch can learn all about the trees and plants. This place is open year round, so you can enjoy the trees during all seasons.
If your pup has been sitting around all day, then grab his leash and head over to Crum Woods. As one of the only forests in Delaware County, this place will be a real treat for your pooch. It’s located in Swarthmore and is part of Swarthmore College. Trails range from short little jaunts to 2.2 miles. As you’re hiking with your pal, look for puptastic features like Alligator Rock, Crum Creek, and Wister Garden. Since the forest is used as a classroom, it’s not uncommon to see students of all ages learning about the trees and local habitat. Remember to pack water and clean up bags for your furry hiking companion.
The lucky dogs of Brookhaven are only 15 minutes away from the Ridley Creek State Park. Located in Media, this park has over 2,000 acres of forests and rolling hills. There are 13 miles of designated hiking trails, plus five more miles of multiuse trails. If your pooch is up for a challenge, hike up to Hunting Hill, the park’s highest point. While in this area, you’ll get a glimpse of Russell Cemetery, a 19th century graveyard. This park also features the Colonial Pennsylvania Plantation, a working farm that has been restored to a pre-American Revolution appearance. Sounds amazing!
Rose Tree Park is located in Upper Providence Township, a 20 minute drive north of Brookhaven. This massive park is a community hub, and hosts seasonal events. Four legged park visitors love sniffing around the open fields of grass and strolling through the groves of trees. Since it’s a pup-ular dog walking locale, your pooch will have plenty of opportunity to meet new friends. If your pal is a history buff, be sure to walk past the park’s three historic buildings. The Rose Tree Tavern was built in 1737. That’s doggone old!
