Awww, thanks for the compliments Rachel about my dog. I am just completely in love with her. She is a little active especially when meeting people for the first time. She likes to show off a little right out front of my apartment with biting her leash. After that, she is good as gold. Thanks for your kind words and l am glad you had a good time with her as she had a good time with you!!!!

Byrd Park

Byrd Park

Barker Field at Byrd Park is a great park that you and your canine companion can visit near Sandston. It is located in Byrd Park, which is around 13 miles away from Sandston. The park is securely fenced and allowed pups to roam off their leashes. In the summer, the park provides water, but when it's colder, you should bring your own. You should keep in mind that this park has plenty of doggie visitors almost at all times, so if you have a timid and shy doggo, this might not be the best place for you. The good news is, all breeds are allowed!

Chimborazo

Chimborazo

Six miles west of Sandston is another place suitable for some doggie play. Church Hill Dog Park at Chimborazo Park is located in the Chimborazo neighborhood of Richmond. The dog park is fenced, and doggies are welcome to play and explore off-leash. If you decide to take your pooch here, we advise you to bring water and poop baggies with you. If you aren't impressed with the fenced area, you can always roam outside of it with your leashed doggo. The great thing about this park is that it has three cool-down stations where pups can dip their paws!

Rockwood Park

Rockwood Park

Twenty-two miles away from Sandston, you can find the Ruff House Dog Park at Rockwood Park. This park is very clean and well-maintained, with a fence that will keep your canine buddy safe. The park provides two separate areas where small and big pooches can play separately. Seasonal drinking water is available; if you visit during the colder months, bring water with you. The watering area tends to get muddy, so bringing a towel is a good idea. The shade is limited, so maybe avoid the park during the warmest periods of the day. Benches and seating areas are provided as well.

Forest Hill

Forest Hill

Thirteen miles away from Sandston, in Forest Hill, you can visit another park for your pooch called Phideaux Field at Forest Hill Presbyterian Church. This is a private park that has a fenced, grassy area in which your pup can have a great time. Unlike the previous parks, this park is rarely crowded. If you're seeking a much calmer environment for your dog, this is the place for you. Plenty of bowls are provided here, but you have to bring your own water with you. Poop baggies are often provided as well, and, of course, benches for the comfort of the dog pawrents!
Carillon

Carillon

Another 13 miles away from Sandston, you can walk your dog along the James River, in James River Park, Richmond. This place is pawfect for those who prefer a calm walk with their leashed canine friends while enjoying beautiful views. Your pup can cool down in the river or in the streams that go through the park. There are also opportunities to canoe with your dog if you're into water sports. Plenty of people let their dogs off-leash, but that is against the park's regulations. If you decide to visit, take waste bags with you as well as fresh water for your pooch.
