The first place you should go is Beaver Creek Dam Battlefield. This is a small park, but it has a nice footbridge over the creek. The entire site is a very popular place to come to take pictures. The historic significance of the area is displayed on easy to read memorial plaques that tell you all about this park. Your dog is going to love the tree-lined trail. 

Gaines Mill Battlefield is a long walk that is lined with old cannons and battlefields. There is a very popular walking trail that you can walk on your own or you can meet up with a tour guide and take your dog with you along a guided tour.

You can find a list of all the events in the area, including the dog-friendly ones. There is a huge section of resources as well. Bring a leash and come play with other dogs. Of course, you will want to have doggie waste bags on hand. There is water available.

    The Hanover Wayside Park is more than just a place to walk your dog. There are a series of trails and even a playground, but the star of the show here is the Veterans Memorial. Here, you will find a display of all the Veterans from the Civil War to World War II. It is an inspiring place to come and walk your dog. This is an on-leash park, but you will find water fountains along the trails. Please remember to clean up after your pet so that others can enjoy the beauty of the park as well. Be sure to stop and remember the lives that were given for what they believed in.

    The neighboorhood of Pole Green is the proud owner of the second dog park in the county. Pole Green Dog Park is a much-needed addition to the area. The six-foot fences and double gate make sure that your dog can play safely off-leash. You can work with your dog on the agility equipment. The two watering stations are located at each end of the park. Doggie waste bags are provided all over the park at marked spots. You can use the timeout pen if your dog is misbehaving. You are sure to have a great time here if you are looking for something special for your dog.

    If you and your hound are hungry, head to Riverbound Cafe, a delicious and dog-friendly place to eat. You must try the fajitas! While you are here, you can grab a drink at the bar or enjoy an iced tea. They have four dog-friendly tables where you will be greeted with bowls of water for your pup. Remember while you are here, your dog must stay on his leash and be polite to others that are eating. The Rosemary Chicken is a local favorite. There are so many amazing dishes that you will want to try them all. Visit on any Sunday to take advantage of the brunch menu.

    Right next to the iconic windmill, you will find Carter's Pigpen Bar-b-Que. This is the place to come for some mouthwatering BBQ. This is one of the oldest, and most iconic, restaurants in town. You must try it while you're here! The sides are made fresh daily. The BBQ sauce at Carter's Pigpen is authentic and unique to the restaurant. Anyone in town will tell you that you can bring your dog, but you will have to sit outside at one of the four dog-friendly tables. Make sure that you have a leash with you, and bring your appetite, too!
