Yakima City Center
The bustling City Center of Yakima is not short on greenery! In this neighborhood you can find a great treat, the Norman and Nellie Byrd Dog Park. Here your playful pup can run around in glorious off-leash freedom in a safe environment. This fenced in dog park is approximately 1.6 acres, featuring mature trees, grassy areas and a shelter. The dog park is inside Sherman Park, just down the Greenway Path. You’ll need to bring your own water and waste bags to pick up after your pup. After working up an appetite, head over to the 2nd Street Grill, in the same neighborhood. This restaurant features american comfort food, and best of all, a dog friendly patio.

Washington Park
The dogs and residents of Washington Park neighborhood never need to have a boring morning walk! This neighborhood is chalk full of dog friendly urban parks to enjoy. One of the pawrific options, is Kiwanis Park. This large park features a variety of athletic fields to sniff and play on as long as there are no games in play. You can also enjoy the asphalt pathways around the pond that are easy on the paws and the eyes. Amenities include restrooms and concession stands. Just west of Kiwanis Park, you can find the smaller Martin Luther King Junior Park. This pretty urban park is a great place to bring your kids to play in splash pad, or your pooch for a picnic at the picnic tables. Leashed dogs are welcome at both of these parks as long as they get picked up after!

Terrace Heights
For an oasis in the dry plains, go check out the Yakima Sportsman State Park in the Terrace Heights neighborhood. This 266 acre state park features ponds, lakes and rivers that attract not only tourists, but over 140 species of birds. The park has picnic areas and two miles of unpaved hiking trails on the river dike that your and your doggo can enjoy. If you want to stay the night here, you and Fido can stay at one of the many campsites. Campsite amenities include fire pits, restrooms and water. Just south of this state park you can find the Sarg Hubbard Park. This park is located along the Yakima Greenway, and has many pathways running throughout it as well. There’s also a large grassy area your pup will love to sniff and play on. Leashed dogs are welcome to enjoy both of these parks with their two legged friends!

Fairbrook
In the Fairbrook neighborhood of Yakima, you can find Randall Park. This park has many woofderful features, such as a nature trail alongside the creek, many athletic fields to stretch your legs on and a picnic area. Probably your dog's favorite part, though, would be the off-leash dog park located just across the Wide Hollow Creek. Drinking water and waste bags are provided, just don’t forget the dog treats for your good boy! Your dog needs to stay leashed when he is not within the fenced-in dog park. When it’s time for a bite, head over to the Creekside West Bar and Grille in the same neighborhood. This restaurant has plenty of pet friendly outdoor tables where you can chow down on some nachos with your canine companion.

Weikel
In the far northwest corner of Yakima, you can find the neighborhood of Weikel. When you and your adventurous pup are just itching to get outdoors, check out the Cowiche Canyon Trail, accessible from this neighborhood. This is one of the many trails supported by the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, transforming former railway corridors into great multi-use pathways. The trailhead can be found from Cowiche Canyon Road. From this trail, you’ll be able to enjoy views of dramatic cliffs, sage covered slopes and a diverse variety of wildlife. The trail is just over 3 miles long, following the Cowiche Creek. Dogs are allowed to join in on the fun, as long as they stay leashed and are picked up after. Don’t forget plenty of drinking water for your thirsty pupper!
