Zed is the shapeshifting alien hound that initially had an antagonistic relationship with Ben's Team as it served under the villanous mercenary Khyber. At the start of Ben 10: Omniverse, Khyber was hired by the mad scientist Dr. Psychobos to hunt down Ben and extract samples of alien DNA from Ben's Omnitrix. To that end, Khyber employed Zed as a living weapon, using a tool called the Nemetrix to turn Zed into various creatures that served as natural predators to the aliens that Ben would transform into.

The various predators that Zed could turn into each countered the abilities of a specific alien in a major way; if Ben tried to transform into one of his fire-based aliens like Heatblast, Khyber would use the Nemetrix to transform Zen into a rocky alien known as a Crabdozer, whose anatomy made it immune to fire. If Ben tried to change into one of his airborne aliens like Big Chill, Khyber would use the Nemetrix to turn Zed into a Necrofriggian eating creature known as a Hypnotick. Khyber and Zed definitely gave Ben a run for his money in the early episodes of Omniverse, forcing the young hero to think on his feet and come up with even more unconventional solutions to problems than he normally would.

It definitely seemed like Zed would serve as the bane to Ben's existence throughout the entirety of Omniverse early on, but fate has a very strange way of bringing people (and aliens) together. Through a very long-winded and intricate turn of events (that would take up far too much space to explain here) Zed fell out of favor with Khyber and ended up becoming the pet of another of Ben's former foes, Kevin Levin.

Kevin and Zed developed a very strong bond over time, likely due to the fact that the two former villains turned heroes shared common ground in that regard. By the time she had been adopted by Kevin, Zed had lost the Nemetrix and was unable to transform into her various other forms anymore. While Ben's Team would be unable to reap the benefits of the Nemetrix's firepower with Zed on their side, they would be able to give the Anubian Baskurr dog a loving home and a just cause to fight for.

As stated earlier, the Ben 10 and Generator Rex franchises were two of Cartoon Network's most beloved shows at one point in history; the various aliens that Ben Tennyson could transform into were almost all iconic in their own right; their unique powers and intricate designs also served to inspire a number of very successful toylines and those same aliens served as the basis for a number of characters from other franchises.
