Introduction
Black Butler a manga story set in a dark fantasy version of Victorian-era London that was adapted into a popular anime production as well. It follows the story of Ciel Phantomhive, a young teenage boy from a powerful family who has formed a contract with Sebastian Michaelis, the demon who serves as his butler. The contract between Ciel and Sebastian states that Sebastian will serve Ciel until Ciel is able to get revenge for the torture and murder of his family, at which time Sebastian will be allowed to consume Ciel’s soul. While Ciel searches for revenge, he also serves Queen Victoria as the Queen’s Watchdog, investigating cases that Queen Victoria deems particularly threatening or important in some way.
Black Butler Inspired Dog Names in Pop Culture
Vincent Phantomhive, Ciel’s father, was the head of the Phantomhive household before Ciel. He was a highly intelligent man who was skilled at manipulation, but he also tended to be kind and courteous to those he encountered. Ciel was thrust into the role of the Queen’s Watchdog and head of the Phantomhive household when his father, mother, and the family dog were killed by intruders and he and his twin brother were kidnapped. While Ciel is more stern and arrogant than his father was due to the circumstances that made him the Earl of Phantomhive, he also inherited Vincent’s intelligence and shrewdness and uses it to his advantage.
The television show Lost, an American drama that follows the seventy survivors of a catastrophic plane crash introduces it’s audience to Vincent, a golden-colored Labrador Retriever who is the only canine survivor of the crash of Oceanic Flight 815. The dog was most often played by Madison, a canine actor who was trained by Kim Stahl from Hawaii, although other dogs occasionally filled the role. Vincent originally belonged to a man by the name of Brian Porter, but he bonded strongly with Brian’s stepson Walt Lloyd. When Walt’s mother died of a blood disorder in Australia, Brian gave custody of Walt to his biological father Michael Dawson, who managed to obtain Vincent from Brian as well. Vincent appeared in thirty-seven of the one hundred and twenty-two episodes of Lost and was present during many key scenes leading many watchers to believe the dog had supernatural abilities of some sort. Walt gives Vincent to a woman named Shannon when he tries to escape the island by raft, stating that Vincent’s companionship would help her to get over the loss of her brother. After Shannon is shot and killed, Vincent lives with former police officer Ana Lucia Cortez until she is also killed on the island. Later in the series, the island that the survivors are trapped on begins moving through time and several of the characters are transported to 1974 along with it, including Vincent. When many of the characters in 1974 are killed by a group of people referred to simply as The Others, a few of them escape into the woods. An older couple, Rose and Bernard, are among those who escape and they choose to build a cabin in the woods in order to stay on the islands in the 1970s, and Vincent retires with them.
Black Butler Inspired Dog Name Considerations
There are many wonderful ways in which to select a name for a new furry family member. Many people choose names from history, naming their canine companion after a person that they recall fondly from their own lives, an individual who made important contributions to the world, or a well-known celebrity. Others may compile a list of names that have a specific meaning that describes their pet, either physically or behaviorally. Another popular option is to choose a name that relates to an interest or hobby, such as manga or anime. Black Butler, known as Kuroshitsuji in Japanese, is a popular manga series developed by Japanese artist Yana Toboso in 2006 and adapted for television in 2008. There are several interesting and varied characters in the series, giving you many options for inspiration. A loyal canine may find names like Agni, Betty, Ran-Mao, or Tanaka suit them well, while a particularly clever, intelligent, or manipulative dog may find names like Victor, Angelina, or Lau to be more appropriate. If your pup is particularly fond of licking out the pans after you've burnt your supper, the name Baldroy, after the Phantomhive's chef, may be exactly the right name.
