Introduction
If you are a fan of horror movies, especially those that feature vampires, you are most probably a huge fan of the iconic film Blade and its sequels, Blade II and Blade: Trinity. Blade was directed by Stephen Norrington and written by David S. Goyer, and they are based on the Marvel character Blade. The story follows the adventures of the aforementioned character played by Wesley Snipes who is a hybrid, half vampire known as daywalker, who, despite his heritage, becomes a renown vampire hunter. The film was a huge success and has since gained a cult following, and has inspired numerous Halloween costumes since the time it was released. So, if you’re a fan, you can name your doggo after one of the characters from this fantastic film!
Blade Inspired Dog Names in Pop Culture
We all know at this point that dogs are amazing creatures that make our lives better just by existing. When we add on their charming personalities, their ability to cheer us up with their funny antics, and the all-powerful puppy eyes that can melt the iciest of hearts, the effect dogs have on us humans is even bigger. Therefore, it is no wonder that we have developed “jobs” for our lovely pups, and one of those jobs is to be therapy dogs! Therapy dogs help people in need and help them cope with hardships in their lives, most commonly caused by illness.
One of such noble dogs is Eric, who, coincidentally, shares his name with Eric Brooks, aka Blade, the main character of the hit comic series and movie franchise – Blade. Eric may seem like your regular doggo, but he is so much more than that. He is a therapy dog who helps people in dire situations by providing emotional support and motivation to try and heal themselves to the best extent they can. One of the people who were lucky enough to spend time with Eric is Karen, who had had a devastating stroke, leaving her with limited ability to speak. She could not have a proper conversation with another human, which made her depressed. However, her mother told the BBC that since they got Eric in their lives, her mother began smiling again, even when it was obvious that she could not.
Eric’s kind soul and loving eyes have inspired the creators of BBC’s Listen to Britain to produce a short film called What’s So Special About Eric, which tells the story of this doggo and emphasizes the need for therapy dogs, and showcases the wonders they can do for people. Eric’s story inspired many charities, one of which is Pets As Therapy or PAT in the United Kingdom, to breed and train pups as therapy dogs, so they could also continue the noble work Eric is already doing. Some of their conditions are that the dog is over nine months old, that they have been a part of their owner’s family for no less than six months, and that they pass a temperament test.
It is absolutely clear at this point that the importance of dogs is finally being recognized as more than just pets, hunting companions, or guardians of the house. Dogs have the ability to cheer us up when it seems that everything has gone dark, they are able to make us move out of our wallowing spot, and even make us heal faster with the power of positivity and pure love they provide. And for that, we commend Eric and other noble therapy dogs!
Blade Inspired Dog Name Considerations
Yes, we know, Blade is super cool, an unattainable level of awesome that most of us mortals will never be able to reach. He is strong, he is fast, he is smart, he is skilled with weapons, and he is an amazing martial artist, apart from being devilishly handsome and utterly charming. Even though achieving that level of everything is a bit hard, dare we say impossible, it is still in the realm of possibility that you can at least graze the stars by giving your dog an amazing name that will remind everyone of the fantastic movie franchise you love so much.
So, if you are looking for that perfect moniker, look no further than the Blade character list. Of course, the first and obvious choice is the name Blade, but if you want to be a little more elusive, you can name your dog Brooks, after Eric Brooks, aka Blade! Deacon, after Deacon Frost is another fantastic choice, and it is inspired by Blade’s mortal enemy. Abigail Whistler, played by Jessica Biel is a Nightstalker and the daughter of Abraham Whistler, and also one of the strongest female characters in horror movies, and, what a coincidence, she also has a wonderful name that your dog can proudly carry throughout their life!
