At the game, Maddie held up a sign with the words “Dad said if 13 scores on my Birthday we get a Dog,” and Cam delivered, scoring not once, but three times. Maddie’s parents also delivered, and shortly after the match, they picked up the Black Lab mix from the Humane Society, dubbing her Cam. They brought the new pooch to the rink to visit the hockey player she was named after, and while she seemed to adjust to the chaos of the hockey rink well, the sound of the puck hitting the glass was a bit unnerving. During the game, she and her family had a few special visitors, including the head coach for the Blue Jackets team, John Tortorella, as well as John Davidson, the president of hockey operations. When she finally got to meet Atkinson, Cam rewarded the hockey player with canine joy accompanied by several doggie kisses, and when Maddie tried to get her new companion’s attention by squeaking a toy and calling her name, it was Cam Atkinson who looked up, giving everyone a bit of a laugh.
