Cat Names that Start with T in Pop Culture
“T-I-Double Guh-Er!” Many of us remember that iconic catchphrase from the one and only Tigger from Winnie-the-Pooh. In his personal anthem, he declares, “The most wonderful thing about tiggers, is that I’m the only one!” Tigger is one of the most famous cartoon tigers out there.
Alan Milne, the creator of the Winnie-the-Pooh series, named Tigger after his son Christopher Robin Milne’s stuffed tiger. Tigger first appeared as a character in the book series in 1928 and made his debut on film in the 1968 Disney film Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day. Tigger’s long history and widespread fame mean it’s possible even your grandparents grew up knowing and loving Tigger.
Tigger is mostly recognized for his orange coat with black stripes and cream belly. He also has large black eyes, a big red nose, a long chin, and a bouncy tail. An orange tabby cat would wear this name well. About 80% of orange cats are male, and they appear more often in certain breeds like the American Bobtail, the Exotic Shorthair, the Devon Rex, and the Scottish Fold. Some even have a mackerel orange coat, which has tiger-like stripes. It’s nice to think that there are probably many Tigger doppelgangers bouncing around people’s homes.
By far the most notable thing about Tigger is his exuberant, “bouncy, trouncy” personality. He is possibly one of the most eccentric characters in the Hundred Acre Woods. Although he can be reckless, competitive, and a bit of a troublemaker, he is loving and friendly at his core. He describes himself well in his anthem. After emphasizing many times how bouncy and fun he is, he often says, “Tiggers are cuddly fellows, Tiggers are awfully sweet." He is deeply caring and will go out of his way to cheer his friends up.
This playful tiger continues to describe himself by singing, “They're loaded with vim and vigor, they love to leap in your laps.” Tigger shares his enthusiasm for life with others, whether they like it or not. He is confident and carefree, until he has to face his crippling fear of heights. Despite Tigger’s shortcomings, he is at the heart of the Hundred Acre Woods family. It would not be the same without him.
Do any of Tigger’s traits resonate with you? Maybe it seems like your new fur-baby’s “bottom is made out of springs.” Even though Tigger takes great pride in being the only one, surely he would be willing to share his name with your cute little furball.
Cat Names that Start with T Considerations
The letter T has a rich history! In ancient times, the letter T meant “taw”, the marker or signature of people who were illiterate and unable to sign their names. Does your cat have an interesting mark on their fur? Maybe even a T shaped patch? That could be a great opportunity to get creative with a T name. You could think of it as a monogram on their fur.
The origin of the letter T can also be traced back to prehistoric drawings of arrows and thunderbolts. Perhaps the personality of your tough little kitty needs a strong T name like Thunder.
A recent study found that the way words and letters sound can evoke an emotional response, as has long been seen in poetry and music. Some letters sound soft, while others sound harsh. The letter T can sound strong in names like Taz or Tank, or exciting like in Twinkle. Does your new feline friend’s personality seem to suit any of these descriptions? Maybe your kitten fearlessly playfights with other pets in the household, or their antics thrill you every day. No matter your reason for choosing a T name, you’re sure to find one in the list below that can suit your unique feline’s personality.
