But with the good times also come the bad, and the quiescent life that Strange and Bats were coming to appreciate would soon be turned upside down by the powers that be. Due to a series of circumstances that are bit too complex to discuss here, Bats was placed in a highly stressful scenario that agitated him to an immense degree. This stress and agitation unfortunately proved to be too much for the old Basset Hound, and bats succumbed to his frail heart. It was this event, along with Strange learning that he had been tricked by Loki, that motivated the Doctor to wrest his title back from the Norse God of Mischief, no matter how impossible that task may have seemed. Bats was last seen as a spectral hound, quietly watching over the rightful Sorcerer Supreme in spirit.
