The Paglachians approached G'Newmann while pretending to represent the Guardians of the Universe. The Paglachians then told G'Newmann that he had been chosen to join the Green Lantern Corps and was given an Emerald Ring to serve as his means of defense and his badge of office. In reality, the ring that G'Newmann was given was a fake; rather than being powered by one's will, the ring G'newmann was given ran on "Anti-Oan" energy and was essentially defective. G'Newmann, not exactly being the sharpest tool in the shed, didn't question the circumstances behind the new gift. Rather, he accepted the gift with pride and set about performing unnoteworthy deeds under the guise of being a full on Green Lantern. In reality, G'Newmann's antics did more to discredit the real Green Lanterns and eventually Guy Gardner was sent to resolve the issue by the actual Guardians of the Universe.

It was at this moment that Guy met G'Newmann's nephew, G'Nort G'noggs. G'Nort was just as equally dimwitted as his uncle was, but he had a good heart and genuinely wanted to help others. After doing some sleuthing, Guy and G'Nort were able to uncover the true nature behind G'Newmann's ring and proceeded to shut down the plot to discredit the real Green Lanterns. G'Newmann ended up being discredited in the end while G'Nort, by virtue of Guy Gardner's word, was inducted into the ranks of the actual Green Lantern Corps.
