Dog Names Meaning Night

Dogs have been working alongside humanity for thousands of years. They have pulled carts, hunted animals, fought in our wars, found our missing, and comforted the weary and distraught in all sorts of situations. Now in South Florida, a black Labrador Retriever is helping humans clean up our oceans by diving for trash. Lila, a name which means born at night in Arabic, was trained by her owner Alex Schulze to dive underwater to retrieve things, starting with toys, in their swimming pool at home. He started by putting the toys underwater on the steps in the shallow end of the pool, requiring her to just put her head underneath the water, then he slowly moved the toys further out in the pool until she was able to dive all the way down to the bottom of the deep end. Once she was comfortable with diving in the pool, he took his diving doggo out to the ocean, where she performed admirably, free diving alongside him and picking up her toys from the bottom of the ocean floor. 

One day around 2015, while out free diving, Alex had an idea; perhaps Lila could fetch him a few fresh lobsters. The lobsters in the northern part of the USA are American and European lobsters, a cold water lobster with large claws that could pinch a dog’s face or paws, causing both pain and damage. The Spiny Lobsters that are found in the more southern waters of Florida lack these dangerous appendages, however, and Lila caught a lobster on her first try, and videos of the ocean diving retriever began making the rounds on the internet, to the delight of the viewers. Alex is very devoted to the ocean, and when he and a fellow diver saw fishermen forced to push their fishing boats through garbage lining the shores in Indonesia, they decided to do something about it, and in 2017 they started an organization by the name of 4ocean designed to help clean as much of the plastic pollution from the ocean as possible, one pound at a time. He enlisted Lila to help in her own way, and help she did, diving deep to retrieve plastic bottles and plastic bags. Lila has not only helped the worldwide organization with their collection of over 2,200,000 pounds of trash from the garbage; her story has helped to garner more publicity for the company, which is now operating out of several countries and employs over 150 people, and at least one dog.
