Introduction
There are many different ways to go about choosing an appropriate name for your new canine companion. Some people choose a name based on books or movies that they have been inspired by, while others pick names based on previous pets, places, or even people that they admire, while still others choose to base their name on a specific meaning that either describes their new pet or what qualities they hope for their new canine companion to develop. Another way to choose a name is to start with a letter or a group of letters, such as the letters "s" and "t", and then narrow down the list from there.
Dog Names that Start with St in Pop Culture
Storm and Stormy are popular names for pets that start with the letters 'St', and it seems that a few dogs with these names have what it takes to become big news.
Storm the Weather Dog was adopted in 2011 by TV meteorologist Anthony Farnell for the television news station Global TV in Canada and since he planned on occasionally bringing his new pup into the studio and on weather talks, he decided to let the public decide the dog’s name via a poll on the Global News website. Just a few weeks after he made his television debut he decided that he’d rather anchor the news than discuss weather and he popped his head up from behind the desk during a news story. The clip went viral and Storm became a sensation, with his own very active Facebook and Twitter pages and an active base of fans.
This summer, during the Ellery Brookman Goldfields Pipeline Half Marathon in Australia, a well-known stray in the area called Stormy decided he felt like running as well. He was near the starting line, milling around with people who had signed up to run the race, then when the air horn went off to signal the start of the race he took off running with everyone else, stopping at aid stations as he needed them throughout the event. The persistent pooch completed the thirteen-mile race in a respectable two and a half hours, and while he hadn’t officially entered the race, race officials presented him with a participation medal.
A Golden Retriever in Long Island, New York, also named Storm, made a name for himself by playing the role of the unexpected hero when he jumped into the water near Port Jefferson Harbor to save a drowning fawn. The dog’s owner, Mark Freeley, was somewhat surprised when his dog jumped in the choppy water and started dragging the baby deer back to shore, carefully towing it into shore. When he got the waterlogged fawn onto shore, he nudged and pawed at her to ensure she was alright, and Mark contacted Strong Island Animal Rescue to come to get the baby. When the animal rescue was able to collect the fawn, they transported it to the Star Foundation, a sanctuary and rehabilitation center for wildlife, where it was treated for a scraped eye and a tick infestation, as well as a condition known as subcutaneous emphysema, in which air gets trapped under the skin. Star foundation returns wild animals to their habitats once they are rehabilitated.
Dog Name that Starts with St Considerations
Choosing a name for your pet is an important decision that can not only affect how you interact with your pet but also how well they respond to you and your training. It is helpful to choose a name that can be easily heard and understood in multiple environments, as well as easy for you to pronounce, and easy for your pooch to distinguish between the name and their most commonly used obedience commands. Names that start with "St" have a nice strong beginning sound which is fairly easy to decipher even in chaotic situations. There are many ways to narrow down a list that is made up of names with the same beginning sound, such as this one. You can choose a name based on the appearance of your new pup, names like Steel and Strawberry can refer to the dog’s color, while Stiletto may be appropriate for a thin but athletic dog. Their habits and preferences may also help to pinpoint the best name; a name like Stian, meaning wanderer, may work well for a dog that likes long walks and Stanczia works well for a dog that is constant and prefers to stick around. There are several names that mean resurrection on this list such as Stacey, Stasius, and Stasha, which would work well for a dog rescued from dire circumstances, as well as names that mean crown such as Stephano and Stephana that may be appropriate for your little prince or princess.
