Famous Aries Dog Names

There are several dogs in popular culture who share their names with famous people who were born under the astrological sign of Aries. Eddie, the Jack Russell character on the television comedy Frasier who shares a name with well-known comedian and actor Eddie Murphy, and Gary Fisher, the dog previously owned by Carrie Fisher who shares a name with the Aries actor and director Gary Oldman are well-known examples.

Slightly less well-known examples include Francis, the beloved Poodle narrator of the popular YouTube channel “Cooking with Dog”, who shares a name with Aries Frances Perkins, the first woman to serve on a US Presidential cabinet, although the spelling is a little different, and self-taught skateboarding sensation Eric, a name he shares with Aries Eric McCormack, the actor who plays Will on both the original and the reboot of the hit television series Will & Grace.

The Aries sign often includes athletic and active individuals with a lot of flair, traits which Eric the French Bulldog exhibits in a big way. Eric’s owner took the little dog to a London park when he was just six months old and the impulsive pooch stole a skateboard from one of the kids at the park and was deliberately riding it down the hill. Several videos of Eric skateboarding have since gone viral and the little dog has even gotten to meet human skateboarding legend, Tony Hawk. The little dog is still actively pursuing his sport and is frequently referred to by his new nickname, Eroc when skating.

Cooking with Dog is a popular YouTube cooking show from Japan in which a small grey Poodle narrates cooking instructions in a heavily accented French accent as a kind looking Japanese woman clearly demonstrates each step with sure, steady hands. The show launched in 2007, and the chef’s own pet Poodle was included both as a hook to increase interest in the show and as a way to calm and reassure the chef, who didn’t have any experience on camera. Both the show and Francis quickly developed a large following around the world with over a million subscribers, as well as inspiring a spin-off called “Go Francis” with a cloth representation of Francis visiting cooking based destinations, and several products that sported an image of Francis, including t-shirts, aprons, and bento boxes. Although the English translation of the title gave many English speakers pause, those who watched the show soon became entranced with the combination of whimsy and the simple, clear-cut cooking instructions, without a lot of frills. In November of 2016, fans of the show were notified that Francis had passed away at nearly fifteen years old in a message shortly after filming that episode, an episode entitled “Pressed Sushi with Seared Marinated Mackeral Recipe.” He had lived a long and happy life, and although there were fewer episodes after his death, the show did go on, and chef continues to cook as a picture of Francis or stuffed animal takes his place by the stove and his familiar, soothing narration continues.
