Famous Virgo Dog Names

There are actually several railway dogs that have shared names with famous Virgo individuals, although these famous canines gained their celebrity long before most of the humans that are listed here. Annie, a Collie mix dog that lived in Fort Collins, Colorado from 1934 to 1948, shares her name with two-time Crossfit champion from Iceland, Annie Thorisdottir. She was given the name by railway workers who took her in as a pregnant stray, who cared for her and helped to find homes for her puppies. Annie stayed with the railway workers at the station and became a permanent fixture, greeting every passenger as they came into town and becoming a mascot for the town, with many disembarking locals greeting the charming canine before addressing anyone else. When she passed away at the ripe old age of (at least) fourteen, her gravesite was made into a historical land site, and in 1998 a life-sized bronze statue of Annie was permanently installed in front of the public library in the downtown area of Fort Collins.

In the late 1800s, there were two dogs, halfway across the world from one another, who shared names with Virgos. These two dogs weren’t content with greeting passengers at the station and instead took to riding the rails, often staying at the homes of station employees. In Australia in 1884, a sheep van full of around fifty stray dogs and puppies was headed for the country so the dogs could work as rabbit hunters and pest control. A man by the name of William Ferry, a porter for the railway, took a fancy to one particular pup. He offered to buy the pup, and when that didn’t work, he found another stray dog on the street and convinced the van driver to exchange dogs. He promptly registered his new dog with the name of Bob, a name that would later be shared with famous Virgo Bob Newhart. When Mr. Ferry was promoted to assistant Station Manager, Bob became accustomed to riding the trains, eventually hitchhiking on trains of his own accord and traveling throughout Australia, and became well-known and loved at many stops, including Victoria, Sydney, and even Brisbane. He became famous not just throughout the Australian continent, but throughout the world, and when he eventually traveled over the rainbow bridge, his remains were preserved along with his collar, inscribed with the words, “Stop me not, but let me jog, for I am Bob, the driver’s dog.”

Halfway across the world, in the southern United States, another little dog, a stray terrier who was given the moniker Railway Jack, was traveling the railways from the United States all the way to Mexico. Jack, who shares a name with modern Virgo comedian Jack Black, was often confused with another train riding terrier Owney as the two were similar, and rode many of the same trains. Jack, like Bob, was preserved by taxidermy but in another unusual parallel between the two scruffy dogs, both of the taxidermied pooches have mysteriously disappeared.
