Introduction
Fullmetal Alchemist Inspired Dog Names In Pop Culture
Interestingly enough, Black Hayate was originally found by one of Riza's fellow soldiers, the bespectacled Master Sergeant Kain Fuery on a very rainy day. Fuery initially took the dog in to shelter it from the elements, and became quite fond of Black Hayate early on. However, Fuery was living in a military dorm at the time which enforced a strict zero tolerance policy for dog ownership. Unfortunately, Fuery had to go out of his way to find Black Hayate a home, lest the Master Sergeant would have to resort to releasing the poor pup back onto the streets.
Fuery started his search by seeing if any of his many fellow soldiers and close friends would be interested in caring for Black Hayate, but he was initially met with little success; his close friend Vato Falman took a fancy to Black Hayate as well but was unable to care for the dog to due to living in a dorm with a similar no pet policy. Another friend of Fuery's, Second Lieutenant Heymans Breda, had a crippling fear of canines and vehemently rejected Fuery's offer. Fuery also asked Edward Elric if he'd be interested in caring for Black Hayate, but Edward had to pass due to he and his brother's perpetually mobile living conditions. Near the end of his rope, Kain Fuery even asked his commanding officer, the Flame Alchemist Colonel Roy Mustang, if he'd like to be the proud owner of Black Hayate, but Colonel Mustang indirectly expressed a set of sentiments that made it very clear he'd be unfit to care for the stray Shiba Inu.
With all options seemingly spent, Kain Fuery was almost convinced he'd have to release Black Hayate back into the wild until Lieutenant Riza Hawkeye intervened and expressed interest in caring for the dog at the last minute. Comforted by the possibility of Black Hayate finally finding a reliable and loving owner, Kain Fuery relinquished his de facto ownership of Black Hayate to Riza, who gave the pup his now famous name once she assumed ownership of him. In response to all of this, Black Hayate reacted by urinating all over the floor at the very moment Fuery handed him over to Riza. Initally taken aback, everyone eventually came around and had a good laugh about the ordeal as Black Hayate warmed up to his new owner.
Fullmetal Alchemist Inspired Dog Name Considerations
Conversely, if not somewhat controversially, you could name your dog after whichever character you feel has the coolest abilities. The series goes to great lengths to chide the idea of valuing power over people, but there are quite a few characters with exceptionally unique talents. Roy Mustang is equally known for his impressive flame alchemy as he is for his leadership skills, and both the Elric brothers are prodigious Alchemists who use their abilities in very innovating ways. Whichever reason you choose, FMA is host to a large selection of great characters to consider naming your dog after.
