Meet Doc, the drug sniffing yellow Labrador. He works for the Pasco County (Fla.) Sheriff's Department and he's three years old. His partner, Deputy Brian Hernandez, is especially grateful to have Doc by his side because Doc was purchased for the police department with a $10,000 donation from major league baseball player Roy Halliday, the two time winner of the Cy Young Award. Unfortunately, Halliday was killed in a plane crash in November, 2017. That makes Doc even more special to the department.

Halliday was a resident of Pasco and known for his generosity and kindhearted ways. He was friends with the deputies and pleased to be able to help them obtain a new K9 officer. When the dog came on board they decided to name him Doc in honor of Roy 'Doc' Halliday. Doc was Roy's MLB nickname.

Doc was born in the Netherlands and now lives at home with his handler Hernandez when he isn't working. He shares the home with three other dogs that he enjoys playing with. He also loves a good ice cube and he likes to chase anything that bounces. He's a happy boy and isn't above begging for treats.

When Doc first arrived in Pasco, Halliday signed his collar. Halliday was known as a dog lover and often took foster dogs into his home. He especially liked to foster pregnant mothers and their puppies until they were old enough to survive. Now Doc is a living legacy to the man's love for both his community and dogs.

Doc doesn't only work the streets of Pasco. He's also used to help detect drugs smuggled in by inmates and hidden in the jail. He's a hard worker and loves his job. Roy Halliday wanted to help keep his community safe and drug free and Doc strives to live up to Halliday's desire.

Doc is a friendly boy who willingly shakes paws and relishes the pats and love he receives from friends and co-workers but he's all business on the job. Despite his wagging tail and big smile, he's spot on with his detection skills. He actually has two certificates in drug detection.He's always ready to go out and get some bad guys.

Although Doc is named after a baseball player, that baseball player was nicknamed 'Doc' after Doc Holiday from the wild, wild west. Gunsmoke also has a Doc, Doc Adams the physician.
