Introduction
Modern Family is an incredibly popular sitcom in the format of a mockumentary that follows the lives of the large Pritchett family. The patriarch, Jay, is married to Gloria, a Colombian woman much younger than him. Jay’s children, Mitchell and Claire, both have their own families but are still incredibly close to their father. Mitch is married to Cam, and Claire is married to Phil Dunphy and has three children, Alex, Haley, and Luke. The series tells the story of their daily lives with all the hilarious adventures and conflicts that can arise in such a large family.
Modern Family Dog Names in Pop Culture
Any family, especially one modern family, is never complete without a cute little doggo running around the backyard, providing emotional companionship, and teaching children to care for animals, and like this, other humans. The big Pritchett family is richer by one furry member, an adorable Stella, the French Bulldog living with Jay, Gloria, Joe, and Manny. The cute pup was a bit problematic in the beginning, chewing and destroying Gloria’s clothes and shoes. She came to the Pritchett household after Jay adopted her from a dog trainer who had to go back to school, and of course, just like any dad, he was reluctant to keep the dog in the house. However, as time went by, and as it always happens, he grew to love her, and now he is the one person who loves Stella the most, taking her for walks, cuddling with her, and giving her treats.
Gloria, however, is not a huge fan of Stella. As previously mentioned, the Frenchie chews on her shoes, destroys her clothes, makes her jump into the pool and wets her hair, and outright ignores her. Also, Jay always greets Stella first when he comes back home, instead of his wife, and even buys her expensive diamond necklaces, instead of getting a gift for Gloria.
Stella is played by a French Bulldog called Brigitte, owned by Guin Dill. Guin is the owner of Good Dog Animals, a company which lends animal actors to TV series and films in Hollywood. Her career is also quite rich. She got the gig in Modern Family by just being cute, even though she did not go through proper training. She also won an award for Best Dog in a Television Series, beating Lambchop from Suburgatory. The New York Post described Stella as the most famous dog on TV since Eddie from Frasier, which is quite a flattering epithet one pup can get. She was born in Grimsley in Tennessee, and she underwent the proper training program after the second season of Modern Family. Additionally, Brigitte has a fantastic relationship with Ed O’Neill, which helps with their on-screen chemistry too!
Stella the character has appeared in all seasons of Modern Family except the first one, so it is safe to say that she is here to stay and that we will see a lot more of the adorable Frenchie. Audiences all over the world love her relationship with Jay, and are excited to see how she will anger Gloria in the future!
Modern Family Dog Name Considerations
If you are an owner of a French Bulldog, you can opt for the name Stella, after Jay’s beloved dog. Perhaps the name Brigitte, after the dog actress who played Stella will work for you. However, if you are looking for a human character as an inspiration, fear not, the modern family is quite large so that you won’t run out of characters any time soon.
Perhaps one of the most iconic members of the Modern Family is Jay Pritchett, the patriarch of the family and the Vietnam War veteran. He is sometimes grumpy and harsh, but he has a heart of gold and loves his family a lot. He is a reliable father who always looks out for his children, supports his wife, and loves his dog.
An excellent name for a flamboyant doggo is Gloria, after Jay’s wife, the gorgeous woman played by Sofia Vergara. She was born in Colombia and is a former pageant queen who emigrated to the US when she was young. She was married to Javier Delgado, which is also an exceptional name for a charming doggo.
