Introduction
Nashville Dog Names in Pop Culture
Doug the Pug started his life in Ohio but was purchased as a pup by Leslie Mosier who lived in Nashville. Leslie had wanted a Pug since she was a child and she knew she wanted to name him Doug the Pug. Doug's breeder drove him to Nashville to begin his new life with Leslie in 2012. Leslie worked for a record label managing social media, so it turned out she was perfectly equipped to handle the booming career of a young Pug.
She started sharing photos and videos of Doug because she was so enraptured of him but it seemed like many other people were in love with Doug, too. The number of his followers climbed and Leslie grew excited. Could she put her PR skills to work and make Doug an Internet sensation? She began sending out emails and finally got a response from Mashable. One of their reporters, Brian Koerber, wanted to do a story about Doug.
And that was the beginning. Soon other media became interested in Doug. Now he has been discussed on the Today show, Good Morning America, Jimmy Fallon, The View, and more. He's appeared at Lollapalooza and he and Leslie have written a New York Times best seller. He's been written about in Cosmopolitan, TIME, and on the Huffington Post. He even has his own line of calendars and apparel.
Leslie now has her hands full managing Doug's affairs. She gave up her job at the record label and now is Dog's 'momager.' He has accounts on all the popular social media networks, his merchandising and public appearances need to be supervised, and of course, he needs hugs and snuggles aplenty. He has also toured internationally with stops in Australia and England. Leslie didn't get Doug with the intention of turning him into a celebrity. She just always wanted a Pug and she finally got one. Now she knows that it was meant to be. Doug the Pug may be famous, but most of all he's Leslie's best friend
Nashville Dog Name Considerations
The most important thing about a dog name is that you like it. You'll say it dozens of times over the years so it needs to reflect your taste. The new dog will be part of your family so at the very least, deserves thoughtful consideration put into his name.
A simple name usually works best. One or two syllables that doesn't sound similar or rhyme with commands the pup will need to learn. This will help your dog learn his name faster and lessen confusion. It may be cute to give your new dog a name that goes with your old dog's name, Hank and Tank, but they are too similar to work well together for the dogs' sake. When giving your dog a Nashville-inspired name you have a lot to choose from: celebrities, neighborhoods, historical figures, and more are all in the running so choose carefully and have fun.
