Introduction
Princess Mononoke Dog Names in Pop Culture
You see, Moro isn't simply acting calm and aloof to help raise morale during dire situations - she's more or less resigned herself to accept whatever come what may; be it the potential destruction of the forest or her own pending demise, Moro is content to let events unfold as they must. In truth, the only things or people that the Wolf Goddess seems to care for are her own children - her wolf cubs Ichi and Nii as well as her adopted human daughter San.
Moro and San first crossed paths long ago, when San was just a baby. For whatever reason, San's parents decided to desecrate the forest, one fateful day. They did so despite living in a world were Forest Gods are able to interact with humans, and attack them, on a whim. To further solidify themselves as model parents, they also decided to bring their infantile daughter with them during their little raid. Well, the Natural Selection committee sent Moro to help clean up the gene pool by executing baby San's parents. Recently orphaned and defenseless, the infantile San was at the mercy of the Wolf Goddess.
Despite the odds, Moro decided to adopt the baby and raised her alongside her two wolf cubs. Moro gave San her name because the Wolf Goddess has an incredibly wry sense of humor; the word "San" actually means three in Japanese. More had already named her wolf cubs Ichi and Nii - the Japanese words for "one" and "two" respectively - so she decided to keep the tradition alive with the newest entry in her litter. Moro would go on to raise San for the next 15 years until the Wolf Girl was on the cusp of womanhood - right around the time that the events of the film began to unfurl.
Princess Mononoke Dog Name Considerations
While director and lead animator Hayao Miyazaki never overtly condemned mankind for sullying the natural world, he did imbue this movie with such "pro nature" sentiment that you may find yourself reevaluating your own impact on the environment by the film's end. Why give your dog a Princess Mononoke name? Because it's the sort of film that'll touch and affect you in a deeply profound way. Consider Moro as a name to honor the wolf goddess or Mono as a play on Mononoke. Ichi, Nii and San are cute and catchy names that will remind you of your place in the world each time you call your pup's name. We've compiled a list of the top 60 names from the film.
