Introduction
Provided that you have not Cronenberged the whole universe and that this one is not just a replacement for your original home, you are probably thrilled about your new puppy (real puppy, not the Cronenberg version)! As a fan of the fantastic series Rick and Morty, now you are thinking about naming your new doggo after one of the beloved characters from the show, and oh boy aren’t you in for a treat! All of Rick’s multiverses are filled with whimsical characters with hilarious backstories and fascinatingly original names! Time to binge-watch the whole three seasons again and write down the best of the best!
Rick and Morty Dog Names in Pop Culture
Oh, how we love Snuffles! Morty’s pupper, an adorable white fluffy dog (most probably a Maltese) is a star of his very own episode, Lawnmower Dog, and for a show like Rick and Morty, having your own episode is kind of a big deal! Snuffles’ superstardom commenced when he was first mentioned in the pilot episode of the show when he got the status of a bit of a menace. He sleeps on the couch pillows, pees indoors, and just generally does not behave like a well-mannered dog would. The peeing incident brings Jerry (Morty’s dad) to tears as he scolds the pup and tells Morty that his beloved pet needs to be potty-trained as soon as possible.
Luckily, Rick invents a helmet-machine that raises Snuffles’ intelligence to unimaginable heights. Snuffles can now understand his humans and starts pondering over the treatment he receives from his owners and humans in general. As he gets smarter and smarter, he starts modifying his new helmet, and upgrading it to such lengths that he can now talk back to humans, and not just listen. He keeps learning more about life on Earth and realizes that many dogs in the neighborhood and around the world are being disrespected and mistreated by their humans. Soon enough, he builds an army of intelligent dogs and becomes the dog overlord, chaining his family up in the backyard and revealing his true name, Snowball.
However, one human did manage to melt Snuffles’, sorry, Snowball’s icy heart, his very own human, Morty. Snuffles realizes that Morty does love him with all his heart and that he is not just a cute accessory to him, and ultimately decides to leave the planet Earth and start his own planet, the world of highly intelligent dogs who will together live in peace. A valuable lesson can be learned from Snuffles’ rule over the world. One must realize that, in the end, power means nothing if you do not have love. And just like Snuffles, perhaps some of the cruel world leaders will someday realize that what matters most is not to divide and conquer, but to unite and rule in peace.
When it comes to his name, Snuffles is a very popular choice among dog owners around the world. It is cute and playful and suits a small doggo perfectly! However, as Snuffles ultimately picked his own name, Snowball, you can do the same, and figure out your dog’s character before you name him something that will not suit it.
Rick and Morty Dog Name Considerations
In the spirit of thinking about Snuffles, if you own a small, white pup, perhaps a Maltese, Bichon Frise, Shih Tzu, or a West Highland Terrier, the name Snowball can be a pretty solid choice. For all the small cutesy breeds, choosing an adorable name to follow your pup’s appearance is a great way to avoid the awkwardness of them not liking it when they ultimately rise against us humans and figure out that it does not match their character.
If you are best friends with a Doberman Pincher, why not name them Bill, after one of the super-intelligent dogs who joined Snuffles in his conquers. And if your doggo is a sassy, classy lady, perhaps a Vizsla or a Weimaraner, you can name them Mrs. Pancakes, after a stewardess from the episode Lawnmower Dog. For a lazy, curvy dog, why not pick a name such as Mr. Goldenfold, after Morty’s math teacher who has incredibly vivid dreams about Mrs. Pancakes.
In the end, whichever name you end up choosing, you will have loads of fun re-watching Rick and Morty and trying to match your dog’s unique traits to some of the most interesting names used in an animated series.
