Introduction
Scottish Terrier Dog Names in Pop Culture
Barney was an adorable puppy and grew into a handsome dog. He loved to roam the halls of the White House and greet his friends. Sometimes he got lucky and they even had a treat tucked away in their pocket for him.
Barney loved to play with balls. Golf balls and volleyballs were his favorites. There's video of Barney chasing round Christmas ornaments across the White House floor and he enjoyed watching a good game of horseshoes as well. Barney was a media star in his own right. He had a production company called Barney Productions and the enterprise developed videos for holidays and other events and they all starred...you guessed it, Barney. Barney was joined in the White House by his pal Spotty the Spaniel Kitty, and soon by his niece Miss Beazley.
Of course, not everyone was crazy about Barney.Vladimir Putin didn't think he was big enough to be a president's dog.and he bit two different people, one a reporter from Reuters and another the Boston Celtics public relations director. Both bites were minor and thought to be Barney's way of saying he'd had enough of the paparazzi. Karl Rove, White House Adviser, called Barney "a lump" shortly after his resignation.
Barney isn't the only Scottish Terrier to call the White House home. Franklin D. Roosevelt had two Scotties. The male's name was Fala, short for Murphy the Outlaw of Falahill, and the female, who really belonged to Mrs. Roosevelt, was named Meggie.
Barney died at the age of 12 due to lymphoma. President Bush stated that Barney "guarded the South Lawn entrance to the White House like he was a Secret Service agent." and that they loved to spend time together. Miss Beazley followed Barney in death in 2014. There is a bronze statue honoring Barney and Miss Beazley at the George W. Bush Library.
Scottish Terrier Dog Name Considerations
These short-legged dogs are great at hunting out vermin and love to dig holes. They are fairly high energy and like to be active.Adults appear to be very dignified thanks to their long faces, beards, and eyebrows. They are not yappy like many other small dogs but instead have a big, loud bark that they use to alert, though it is deep enough to scare off a burglar.
Some owners like to pay respect to their dog's heritage so a Scottish name is always appropriate. Angus or Bonnie or Mac are frequently chosen as names for Scotties as well as many other names of Scottish descent. Whatever you decide to name your new dog, we're sure you'll both be happy with it.
