Introduction
Seattle Dog Names in Pop Culture
This routine started mainly by accident. Jeff and Eclipse would leave the apartment together and Jeff would stop to smoke a cigarette when he got outside. One day Jeff hadn't finished yet by the time the bus arrived so Eclipse got on board without him. She recognized the stop at the dog park and let herself off the bus. She's been doing it ever since.
Eclipse is a beautiful jet black dog with the big warm smile of a Labrador. Her tongue often lolls outside her mouth as she goes about her travels. She walks down the bus aisle choosing a seat. Of course she prefers a window seat so she has an unobstructed view of the park but she is not shy about sharing a seat with a stranger.
In Seattle, it is up to the driver's discretion if an animal gets to hop on board. The bus drivers all know Eclipse, though. They let her on the bus with her buss pass dangling from her halter. Passengers know her as well and greet her warmly with pets and hugs. Sometimes there are even treats involved.
Even the bus company loves Eclipse. We know, because they said they did. After all, she loves their buses.
Eclipse became an international favorite when media outlets began to share the story of the incredible dog that rides the bus all by herself. Now she is often seen on social media sites and, of course, has her own Facebook page. She even did a promotional video of Eclipse visiting some of Seattle's favorite sights, like the Seattle Public Library., the waterfront, and Century Link Field.
Eclipse is a street smart dog. She's been maneuvering along crowded city sidewalks and riding buses now for several years. Young doesn't really worry about Eclipse when she's out taking a journey. He does normally get at least one phone call a week from a well-meaning soul who calls to let him know that they have his dog safe and he can come and get it. Young always just tells them Eclipse knows what she's doing and will be just fine. After all, she can always catch the next bus.
Seattle Dog Name Considerations
The name should be fairly short and easy to pronounce, especially if their are children in the family. Make sure it is one the dog will recognize. Avoid names that rhyme with standard commands. For instance,.you wouldn't want to name a dog "Moe" because it sounds too much like the command "no.".Dogs may have trouble discerning similar sounding words.
If you need inspiration, you might look to your dog's heritage. Lots of breeds, like German Shepherds, Irish Wolfhounds, and Scottish Terriers can suggest a variety of names for you to choose from. French Poodles and English Bulldogs are other breeds that fit a name based on origin as well.
Don't forget to think ahead. A name that may seem perfect for a puppy might not be right for a grown dog. For example, Puppy might not seem appropriate for an adult. Using a little humor never hurts either. When lookig for a specific theme, remember place names like Seattle offer a myriad of ideas for names. You can be inspired by food, nature, monuments, or historical events related to the place, just to name a few.
If you want to wait and observe your pup for a few days and take time to watch his behavior, that's fine. Getting to know your dog before choosing his name is never a bad idea. Whatever you decide, do it with love and begin bonding with your new pet.
