Introduction
Teen Titans Dog Names in Pop Culture
Now it's not a total loss. Wonder Dog has quite a few redeeming qualities to him that make him worthy of his spot on our list. True to his name, Wonder Dog is capable of performing a number of supernatural feats; he possesses strength many times greater than that of an average dog, is capable of flight, and typically possesses a number of other abilities that the writers sort of give and take away from him as they please. In the 1973 Super Friends animated show, in particular, Wonder Dog was depicted as being an oafish yet endearing ally of the Super Friends.
While the 1973 version of Wonder Dog certainly scratched Hanna-Barbera's "lovable nincompoop" itch for that time, the version who interacted with the Teen Titans all the way back in 2008 was just about the furthest thing away from lovable. This version of Wonder Dog served as a dark inversion of the 1973 iteration of the character; while the '73 version was weak in the brains department but had tons of heart, the '08 version was cunning, ruthless, and could only be described as a complete and utter monster.
The story goes that on one fateful day, a stray dog found its way to the Titan's Tower during a particularly chilling winter season. That dog was then found by two of the team's technicians (Marvin and Wendy White) who promptly took the freezing dog inside. The cold blooded canine quickly impressed itself upon Marvin and Wendy, and even managed to win over Miss Martian with his charms and wiles. But it was all a rouse; at the time of his choosing, the dog took on a monstrous form and attempted to take the lives of the Titans! The team bested the beast, but at the cost of Marvin's life and Wendy's ability to walk.
Teen Titans Dog Name Considerations
Another reason to name your dog after a Teen Titans character would be the fact that the show rose the bar for what an animated series primarily aimed at kids could achieve. There quite a few episodes of the show that hit on a number of very serious and weighty topics in a manner that didn't feel too heavy handed. The 2003 show also indirectly spawned the ever divisive spin off series Teen Titans Go! which recently made waves in theaters. The Teen Titans comics, on the other hand, have gained a reputation among comics fans for containing some of the most grounded stories in comic books despite their wide array of fantastical characters.
