Bristow is a small town in Prince William County, Northern Virginia, about 30 miles from Washington, DC. It is a fantastic place to stop by with your pooch, with beautiful pup-friendly parks, walking trails and several dog parks nearby. There is a vet clinic and an animal hospital in town, should Fido need some medical help at any stage.

Bristow also has some amazing places to eat that welcome pets of all sizes at their outside tables. Grab yourself a char-grilled burger at Fosters Grille in town, or a chicken sandwich, some wings or even a veggie burger. For a lighter option, head to Tropical Smoothie Café, where you can enjoy a sweet or savoury breakfast, wraps, sandwiches and (of course) a deliciously healthy smoothie.

The Broad Run Trail cuts through Bristow with the Braemar Nature Trail, and is a picturesque walk for you and pup. The trail is open from dawn to dusk and is free to use. You will need to keep your dog leashed and remember to clean up after him. The whole Broad Run Trail is 3.5 miles at this stage and partly paved, but an easy walk.

Bristow is full of history, so take some time to explore and learn about this lovely place and its legacies, you are both sure to have a pup-tastic stay here.

If you and pup share a love of all things botanical, head to Merrifield Garden Centre Dog Park to the north of Bristow in Manassas. This fenced area at the entrance to the Garden Centre is the perfect place for Fido to have a run off-lead, chase some tennis balls and meet new friends. There is water and some clean up bags provided, but it is a good idea to take some of your own. There is shade available and pup-sized pools in the summer. Once he has worn himself out a little, you can both take a wander through the garden centre itself and check out the amazing array of plants and garden products on offer.

Over in neighbouring Manassas is a great little pet-friendly park, namely the Baldwin Park. There is a path through the gardens that your pup will love to wander with you, as well as picnic areas, benches and a bathroom. Keep you pooch on the lead here, and don’t forget your clean up bags. After your trip to the park, head to Grounds Central Station for a hot cuppa, all-day breakfast or a light lunch. For something a little heartier, try Philadelphia Tavern, Fosters Grille or Old Towne Sports Pub. All of these places welcome dogs at one of the outside tables.
