Kahului is a city located in Central Maui, Hawaii, that hosts the island’s main airport. This town isn’t generally a tourist destination, so it’s a great way to escape the crowds while still enjoying the many parks and natural beauty that Maui has to offer! There are plenty of amenities in this city, from eight veterinary clinics to shopping malls, meaning you’ll have everything you need to raise a happy, healthy puppy in Kahului.

A pawpular area for dog walkers to enjoy the local beauty is the Kanaha Pond State Wildlife Sanctuary. This 143 acre wetland area is a breath of fresh air in the middle of urban Maui. This waterfowl sanctuary is home to some of the endangered Hawaiian bird species, including the Hawaiian Coot and the Hawaiian Stilt. There are trails and benches winding throughout the park where you can take in the sights, and your dog can take in the smells. Leashed dogs are welcome in the park, but don’t forget to pick up after yours!

Kahului knows how to show hospitality to all kinds, including the four-legged. The Original Hawaiian Shrimp Truck has dog friendly picnic tables that offer views of the West Maui Mountains. They’re famous for their Hawaiian-style shrimp, but offer a delicious steak plate as well!

With all of these tropical views and flavors you can enjoy with your dog, Kahului always gets tails wagging!
