This 9.5-mile path winds through the entire city of Lancaster and connects schools, regional parks, shopping areas and restaurant areas. Lancaster, Ohio, is also about to receive its very own off-leash dog park. The Fairfield County Humane Society has already started on the construction of the 1.8-acre park next to their shelter that will be fully enclosed with fences and walls. Locals turn to the Violet Township Dog Park in the nearby Pickerington in the meantime.

The Fairfield Heritage Trail is a lovely trail to take your pup out on for a great day exploring, and can be started at the lovely Lanreco Park in this neighborhood. This trail is 9.5 miles long with paved streets to make the walk a little more comfortable. On one side of the trail your dog can enjoy a small waterway along the journey. Throughout the walk, you will encounter awesome sights, like bridges which are perfect for an Instagram post. The trail is popular among bikers and other walkers, so your dog will have plenty of opportunities to meet new friends. Just be sure to bring water along with you since the trail doesn’t have any fountains for Fido.
Home to the lovely park of the same name, Rising Park, this little neighborhood in the heart of Lancaster is a pawfect place to head for a stroll. The park features a playground, pond, gazebo, and fountain for a beautiful place to walk. There are picnic areas and shelters, and even tennis courts. Feeling adventurous? Head to the rising hill path that takes you up Mt. Pleasant. At the top, you and your pup will be rewarded with a gorgeous view of Lancaster, and areas for an unforgettable picnic.
This lovely westside neighborhood features two small parks for your pup to roam. Hocking Park offers a large open green space where your dog can run and run. There are two baseball diamonds on site, but there is plenty of green space to be had nearby them. Splash in the creek, or just fetch till your pup’s ready to relax. Glassco Park on the other side of the neighborhood is smaller, offering two baseball diamonds as well, but this triangle shaped green space may be perfect for a change of pace.
Slate Run Living Historical Farm is a fun park to take your pup to for great trail walking and some history, and is located in Groveport to the northwest of Lancaster. Your dog is welcome to visit the farm with you if he remains on leash, and there is even one trail that is dedicated to dogs. The theme of the park is Ohio in the 1880s, and you will see people dressed in that era attire. Beware that there is natural wildlife that roams around the farm that your dog may want to play with.
