Muskegon, also called Michigan's "Port City," is a beautiful lakeside city that boasts an active cultural and outdoors scene - making it the perfect place to explore with Fido in tow. Dog-friendly attractions and areas abound in this former lumber town.

Dog-friendly parks and beaches comprise much of Muskegon's outdoor recreational land. Dog Star Ranch is a massive facility designed especially for dogs - with over 48 acres of play space, five separated off-leash areas, miles of nature trails, agility courses, and a special "excavation" section, your pooch will thank you. Dog Star Ranch offers annual memberships or daily-use passes.

If you're in search of a free park, try Hoffmaster State Park. Three miles of coastline views alongside grass-covered dunes make this park one not to miss. Dogs aren't allowed on the beach there, but if you're looking to dip a toe (or paw) into the surf, visit the Norman F. Kruse Park. Open from 7 am to 11 pm daily, this park has a fenced-off section just for dogs to play on the beach.

Muskegon is revered by locals for its' long, lakeside trails - all of which are dog-friendly! The Muskewata Trail boasts 26 miles of paved paths, extending from Muskegon to Marne, and providing access to farmland, creeks, and residential areas. The slightly shorter (22.5 miles) Hart-Montague Trail State Park is more rural, but with modern amenities like scenic overlooks and picnic areas. Need something shorter? Check out City Lakeshore Trail - ten miles of dunes, with access to historic maritime areas.
