Dog Areas in Nyack

Nyack is a village located in Rockland County, New York near Manhattan and the Hudson River. The name of the village comes from the Native Americans that were resident in that area before the European colonization took place. Plenty of notable people either lived in Nyack or were born there. A few of them include the comedian and actress Rosie O'Donnell and actresses Helen Hayes and Zita Johann.

Nyack isn't just known for its famous residents, though -- it's also a very dog-friendly place! If you need a place to stay here with your doggo, check out Time Nyack or the pet-friendly Airbnb rentals in town. If you're not satisfied with your options, you can search for something in the surrounding areas.

You'll also find a few places to dine with your dog in town. Sour Kraut, the Hudson House of Nyack, and Bourbon Street of Nyack all welcome dogs at the outdoor seating areas. You can also visit the Art Cafe, La Fontana, or Pie Lady and Son for a sweet treat. There isn't a veterinary hospital in the village, but there are plenty of hospitals in nearby cities, like Valley Cottage or Nanuet.

If you want an outdoor adventure, a great place that you can visit with your dog is the Rockefeller State Park Preserve, located around 14 miles away from Nyack across the Hudson River. You and your pooch will pawsitively love exploring Nyack and its nearby cities!

Just a little under 2 miles away from Nyack, you can find a beautiful trail called Buttermilk Falls Trail. This trail is an easy one; it's only around a mile long and it would take under an hour to complete with your pup. Although the hike is pretty short, it still offers a little bit of challenge. The best part of the trail is the scenic views and the mesmerizing waterfalls! Your pup has to be leashed on this trail, and you have to clean up after him, so bring baggies and lots of water because there isn't a water source on the trail.

Around 4 miles north of Nyack, in Hook Mountain State Park, you'll find the Long Path/Hook Mountain Bike Path, which is an awesome hike that would be pawfect for you and your pup! The loop goes to the summit of Hook Mountain and provides excellent views of the Hudson River. The other part of the trail goes along the Hudson River. This place is perfect if you don't want to spend a lot of time driving to find an adventure. Admiring the views with your pup will be a great experience; just make sure you bring water and waste baggies for cleaning up after your pooch.

If you and your pup prefer a securely fenced off-leash area, then you should consider visiting Brookdale Dog Park. This park is around 30 miles away from Nyack and it's located in Upper Montclair. The park is spacious and has divided sections for small and large doggos. You don't need to bring water and waste baggies because this park provides them both for you! For an even better experience, there is agility equipment available. Also, there is a paved path that goes around the fenced area where you can walk your leashed pup if that is what you prefer. Note that the area around the water fountain can get muddy, so bring a towel to clean up messy paws.

Another trail that you can explore with your pooch is the Inwood Hill Park Trail, located around 22 miles away from Nyack. This hike is an easy one and you can finish it in about an hour with your pup. You have to leash your four-legged friend, and the leash has to be shorter than 6 feet. The moderate slopes offer a certain degree of difficulty, and the trail goes through the only natural park on Manhattan Island. Other than the exercise that you're going to get, you'll also enjoy the lovely views of nature, the city, bridges, woods, and so much more. Bring water and poop baggies!

Another place that you can visit nearby is the Grass Island Dog Park,

located across the Hudson River in Belle Haven, a 21-mile distance from Nyack. This off-leash park is safely fenced so your dog can sniff around and hang out with other pups. If you have a small pup that needs to be separated from the other doggies, that's not a problem at this park, because there are two separate areas for large and small breeds. The park isn't huge or fancy, but it's still the pawfect place to play! The ground gets muddy when it rains, so you should bring a towel if you're going on a rainy day.
