Dog Areas in Utica, MI

The city of Utica has been known by several names throughout its history, including Harlow, Hog's Hollow, and McDougalville, until it was finally named Utica in the 1830s. The place is fairly small, but it has a great geographical position. From the south, it's around 28 miles from Detroit. Pontiac is on the west side of Utica, around 14 miles away, and the third biggest city in the state, Warren, is just 10 miles from Utica. If your dog has medical problems or an emergency, it's good to know that Utica has two veterinary hospitals that will provide good care for your canine friend.

Utica has a few places where you can cuddle up and spend a few nights with your furry friend. Comfort Inn Utica is a cheaper option, or you can visit Hyatt Place Utica, Staybridge Suites Detroit Utica, and La Quinta Inn & Suites Detroit Utica. Be sure to check the pet policies at each hotel, as fees and restrictions vary.

Utica is home to over seven parks where you and your leashed pup can explore the day away. You won't find any pet-friendly restaurants or dog parks here, but fur-tunately, Utica is just a skip and a hop from larger cities with plenty of dog-friendly amenities!

Nine miles east of Utica, you'll find Behnke Memorial Dog Park, a free dog park that doesn't require a membership. If you need a separate area for your small dog, this might not be the right place for you since all dogs play in one area here. The park offers fresh drinking water and a hose for rinsing off Fido's paws. Plenty of seating is provided for the dog owners, and there are a lot of toys and tires that will keep your pooch entertained. Pit bulls have to be muzzled in order to play at this park.
