East Hoover
Before making a trip to the popular city of Birmingham, it’s worth making a stop in the eastern part of Hoover, a city a short distance away. Located in Hoover, you’ll find Loch Haven Dog Park, an off-leash park with a section for dogs up to 35 pounds, as well as a separate section for any big pups above that limit. There’s a four-mile walking track that you’re free to make use of; just try to keep up with your happy hound while they dart ahead. They’ll burn off some energy, and why deny them a good run?36

Ruffner
Undeniably, if you’re in the area, you’ll need to brave a venture to Birmingham. The first stop should definitely be the central area, which is where you’ll find Ruffner Mountain Nature Preserve, a welcome escape right in the middle of an urban locale. There are over eleven miles of hiking trails for you and your pup to tread while visiting this pawesome preserve. Dogs are more than welcome -- they’re encouraged, as long as they’re kept on a leash at all times and properly cleaned up after. For such a good time with your favorite furry friend, it’s a small price to pay.24

Garden Highlands
Follow your nose -- or, well, your dog’s nose -- to the Garden Highlands neighborhood. Here, you’ll find Red Mountain Park, a nonprofit organization that offers access to over 1,500 acres of wooded land for you and your adventurous sidekick to explore. There are over twelve miles of hiking trails to enjoy, as well as plenty of zip line adventures if you have someone to keep an eye on your pal while you soar through the skies. Dogs are welcome as long as they’re kept on a leash, though you may want to bring a pal to take turns watching puppy.12

Highland Park
Make your way east for your next stop, and you’re sure to have a ball. A tennis ball, that is! The Highland Park neighborhood is home to the pristine Rhodes Park, a lovely park where your dog is free to join you on-leash. Don’t let that stop you from having fun! Pack a picnic and settle in the shade with your faithful furry friend. Watch the other park denizens go by, many with adorable dogs of their own! Just be sure to bring plenty of fresh drinking water and doggy waste disposal bags. You’ll want to keep this beautiful park nice and clean.
