When spending the day with your pup and the kids, head over to the Oak Grove Park on Forest Glen Road. There is a great walking track where you and Fido can walk some laps, and there is a playground for the kids. After exercising, relax on one of the shaded benches and enjoy a bottle of water with Fido. The peaceful area is perfect when you need to get away and enjoy some quiet time. You might also want to stop by the Marble City Grill on the way home from the park. There are outdoor tables where you can sit with your pup and enjoy your meal.

Northeast Sylacauga

If you and Fido enjoy hiking, the Sylaward Trail at Lake Howard is a great way to spend some quality time together on the weekend. When you get to the trailhead, there is convenient parking and you can set off for a fourteen-mile hike through the National Forest. The trails are well maintained and you will have amazing views of the lake and a variety of wildlife. You and your pup can go fishing in the lake or just relax with a picnic before hiking back to the car. The trail is also used for mountain biking, so be sure to keep your pup on his leash.

Alpine

People from around the area love to visit the Kymulga Grist Mill in Alpine to enjoy a bit of history and some beautiful views. Plan a trip up the road where you can sit in the pavilion or at one of the picnic tables and enjoy lunch with your pup. You can walk around the grounds and see the functioning turbine driven mill that has been around for over a hundred years. The area is well maintained, and there are walking trails where Fido can get some exercise before heading back home. Or plan a weekend trip and stay at the primitive campground.

East Childersburg

The Desoto Caverns Park can be found in East Childersburg, and is a great place to take Fido for a walk. When you need some peace and tranquility, head over to the park and enjoy the views and sounds of nature while Fido has a puptastic time running through the grass and sniffing trees. There is a campground that offers spots for RV’s or tents, and a restroom for convenience. You and your pup can walk around the campground as long as Fido stays on his leash and you bring your own doggie waste bags. The kids will also enjoy the playground, and both two and four-legged children will have a good time socializing.

Southwest Sylacauga

Situated off U.S. Highway 280, you will find great pooch-friendly accommodations. Traveling with Fido can be a lot of fun as long as you can find a nice hotel that welcomes pets. If you are looking for a great pup-friendly place to stay when visiting, the Red Roof Inn welcomes pups for an additional fee. Or you can check out the Quality Inn on Gene Steward Boulevard where you and Fido will be treated to clean and comfortable rooms. Both hotels offer a grassy area where your pooch can get some exercise and fresh air, but you will need to provide your own doggie waste bags.
