Altus
Altus is a quiet and tranquil neighborhood to call home. There are some dog-friendly fast food restaurants around Altus if you are looking for a quick bite on your way home. The Arkansas River is just a few minutes to the west and is the pawfect place to take your pup for a long, scenic walk. Just a handful of miles out of town, you'll find a small community park called Reed Mountain Park with walking paths and some playground equipment for your whole family to explore together! Don't forget to bring doggie waste bags to keep this area clean, and please note that dogs must be leashed in this park.36

Alix
Alix is a small town that definitely embraces simplicity. The town has just the essentials: a gas station, post office, and small market. The residents are friendly and welcome visitors during hunting and fishing season. Hartman Lake is just a few miles away from Alix and is a great fishing spot where you can catch bass and other marine treats with your canine companion. Just make sure you bring plenty of drinking water if you plan on spending the day at the lake, as well as some waste bags to clean up after your pup as you enjoy your day.24

Coal Hill
Coal Hill is a town to the east of Altus. Coal Hill City Park is mostly green fields that you can throw around a tennis ball with your pup to your heart's content. Mount Magazine State Park is about an hour away to the south. This 2,234 acre park is full of rugged terrain for adventurous hikers and experienced hiking dogs. You will want to bring a sturdy harness for your pup to wear while you are hiking through this harsh but beautiful area. The Cove Lake Campground is nearby if you are looking for an extended stay out in nature.12

Mount Nebo State Park
Just an hour away to the east is Mount Nebo State Park, where you will find views accessible by foot at over 1,000 feet elevation. You can hike, fish, camp, and even hang-glide through this amazing state park. (Though your pup probably won't care to join you in the air, so get a hiking buddy to watch him if you want to give it a try!) This pawesome park has a pool, picnic space, tennis courts, and pavilions available by reservation. There is also a ball field. There are markers throughout the park that will tell you more about the mountain and the natural resources found throughout the park.
