Get back to nature with Fido in the North Barling neighborhood! The area is home to Springhill Park, a favorite recreation spot among local and visiting pups and people. Densely populated with verdant hardwoods, the natural area is situated on the banks of the mighty Arkansas River. Because of this, it’s a pawpular place for year-round fishing. Springhill Park has a hiking and biking trail where you and your leashed dog can get some exercise and explore. There is also a playground, picnic shelters and a boat ramp at this furrific recreation area. If you and your furry pal find it hard to leave, stay a while! There are pet-friendly campsites with RV hookups, restrooms and showers!36

South Fort Smith
Your pup’s tail will be wagging in the South Fort Smith neighborhood, just a five minute drive from Barling! This area is where you’ll find Fort Smith’s Ben Geren Regional Park, a pawsome place for all kinds of fun, but especially for a walk with your leashed pooch. The park’s 1.5-mile loop trail offers plenty of space to work up a sweat with your pup. If you’re looking to get even more pumped, there are fitness stations along the way to help you get the most of your workout! If your pup prefers grass, there’s tons of that, too, plus lots of bushes and shady trees. Ben Geren Regional Park pretty much has something for everyone, including a disc golf course, horseshoe pits, picnic pavilions, a playground, tennis courts and athletic fields!24

The Fort Smith Dog Park has 40 acres of fenced-in fun that includes a water-loving dog’s dream – a swimming pond! This massive dog park has wooded areas for exploring and open meadows for playtime! It’s a beautiful natural park with walking paths and views of Arkansas’ rolling hills, so humans understandably love visiting, too! There are benches beneath trees and also in covered areas, a few agility obstacles, doggie waste cleanup stations and a separate small dog area. In warmer months, there are also kiddie pools and a hose to wash your muddy dog.12

With more than 190 trees identified in the Carol Ann Cross Park, there are tons of things for your dog to see and sniff on your visit to Fort Smith’s Wedgewood Heights neighborhood! About four miles from Barling, this neighborhood’s woofderful park has a paved walking path that winds around a quiet, beautiful pond and an unpaved trail through the adjacent hardwood forest. There is lots of open grassy areas where you and your leashed dog can play or relax, plus covered picnic areas with barbecue grills. You and Fido will love taking in the views from the covered dock, too. The park also has bridges, sculptures, a playground and fishing access.
