Bursting with small town pride, Poteau residents embrace their rural roots and closely-knit community. Locals have fun the good ol’ fashioned way – at the drive-in movie theatre, the bowling alley or fun outdoors. Established in 1885, Poteau has several buildings on the National Register of Historic Places and a handful of roadside attractions that draw visitors that would otherwise just be passing through.

One such attraction is pet-friendly! Poteau’s “World’s Highest Hill,” otherwise known as Cavanal Hill, offers you and your pup a scenic drive or a challenging five-mile hike to a beautiful overlook with sweeping views of the valley below. In fact, the views are so stellar, on a clear day, you and Fido can see all the way to Arkansas’ Mt. Magazine! Be sure to bring a camera so you and your pooch can get a photo next to the famed monument displaying the hill’s elevation of 1,999 feet – just one foot short of being a mountain.

Poteau has other furrific amenities, too! There are five veterinary clinics to help keep your pet healthy, and a handful of fur-iendly hotels, including the Holiday Inn Express Hotel and Suites Poteau.

With all there is to see and do in and around town, you and Fido will agree – Poteau is puptastic!
