One of the local trails, the Ozark Highlands Trail, is uniquely based off rail lines and corridors, and has become one of the most interesting trails in Arkansas. With less than an hour drive from Fort Smith, Fayetteville is a doggy paradise with three dog parks, two hiking trails, and even a pet friendly store. Equipped with ponds for swimming, the dog parks in Fayetteville are the perfect way to cool down from hiking in the sun all day. The IAMS dog park is divided into two separate dog parks for small dogs and puppies and larger dogs for safe fun. Pavilions and picnic tables are provided for relaxation and shade, while dog waste supplies are provided to help maintain a clean park. Although a little distant from Fort Smith, Fayetteville is a perfect place to go for several dog parks, hiking trails, and a yummy dog treat bakery around the corner!

A little over an hour from Fort Smith, Rogers is one of the only places in the local area that has caves allowing your dog to tag along too. The local cave tour teaches you how to view caves and interesting facts specific to the caves. The dog park has three individual sections separating small dogs, large dogs, and the training yard. Toys and bath tubs are available for all dogs at the park. The local hiking trails fit all types of hikers from beginners to experts, but all dogs need to be leashed at all times.
