Central Forest Knolls
The Forest Knolls Playground is a simple park right in the heart of Forest Knolls. Though the park is on the smaller side, it’s a great place for your whole pack- human and canine alike! Kids will love the playground, parents will love the picnic tables, and dogs will love to romp in the grass, walk laps around the play equipment, or just spend time with you outside! If you’re looking for a convenient place to stretch your legs in Forest Knolls, this is going to be your go to park time and time again. Bring a doggie bowl to help your dog enjoy the fountains.

Woodacre
The Gary Giacomini Open Space Preserve, one minute into San Geronimo, is a dream come true for anyone who wants to get away from it all. Leash up your dog and head into the trails to explore 1,500 acres of land! You can get pretty far out, but resist the temptation to let your dog off leash. This area is extremely popular for cyclists and equestrians, as well as walkers and joggers. Leashed dogs are safe dogs! Bring your own water, snacks, and a dog bowl to help your pup stay hydrated. This open space is a rare glimpse into Californian beauty, but it comes at the price of amenities like drinking fountains and snack shacks.24

West San Geronimo
One minute across the border from Forest Knolls is San Geronimo. This tiny town is even smaller than Forest Knolls, but it has one important thing you have to see if you’re in the area. The Maurice Thorner Memorial Preserve is an open green space left in its natural state. Pick any of the walking trails that thread through the park and go enjoy yourself! Unlike some other preserves in the area, the Maurice Thorner Memorial Preserve is smaller. You probably won’t be able to see everything in a day, but it’s not as much of a task to hike around! Some pupular features include a rushing river and moderate hills, so leash up your dog and enjoy!

South Nicasio
South Nicasio is a treat to drive through. Just six minutes from Forest Knolls in the town of Nicasio, this neighborhood is spread out and vast. It has to be in order to fully contain the French Ranch Open Preserve Space. Leashed dogs are welcome in this preserve as long as they stay leashed at all times, and they stay on the paths. This is a small price to pay to have access to a wealth of natural beauty. You can choose the easy, flat trails, or tackle the foothills for a more challenging workout. Bring in everything you’re going to need, because when French Ranch Open Preserve Space says “space”, it means it!

West Lagunitas
The Samuel P. Taylor State Park in Lagunitas is a gorgeous place to walk with your dog. You do have to follow some basic state park rules. First, keep your dog on a six foot leash at all times. Next, pick up after him. Lastly, pay attention to signs. Most trails are fine for four-legged friends, but occasional wetland preserves and marshes are off limits to dogs. There’s still plenty to see. This state park is known for dreamy groves of towering redwoods. There are many trails for hiking, cyclists, and equestrians throughout the park. Pick your workout level and explore the park the way you want to!
