Rincon Preservation
The Hellhole Canyon Preserve is only 2-miles out of Pauma Valley and a fantastic spot for both you and Fido to check out for an awesome hike. This 1,907-acre preserve has a 13.5-mile hike that is considered moderate to advanced, as well as restrooms and portable water. If you and Fido want to challenge yourselves, you can continue the hike beyond the 13 miles and hike into the Rodriguez Mountain. While a challenging adventure, it will give you an amazing view of the Pacific Ocean from the top. Be aware of the natural wildlife that lives in the preserve and bring plenty of water with you in case you aren’t close to any of the portable water stations.

Palomar Mountain
The Palomar Mountain State Park is thirty minutes out of Pauma and a great place for you and Fido to go on an adventure. Grab your sneakers and explore the beautiful forest and mountain meadows that the park has to offer. There are certain trails that dogs are not allowed on in the park to help preserve it, so pay attention to the posted signs. The Palomar Mountains offer 4,500-miles of beautiful trails to explore and 970-miles of lakes or rivers that you and Fido can splash around in. Hike around Doane Pond with your pup, or even camp out! Make sure to bring plenty of water and clean-up bags with you.

Pepper Tree Park
Less then thirty minutes out of Pauma Valley is Fallbrook which is home to the Monserate Mountain Preserve. The preserve offers a 1.5-mile trail that gives you a breathtaking panoramic view of the ocean and mountains that surround the valley at the summit. The trail is open from sunrise until dusk which gives you plenty of time to explore Monserate Mountain Preserve and have a good day out. Make sure to bring plenty of water for your dog, since the mountain does not offer much shade and it can get extremely hot. Also watch out for the natural wildlife that can live in the area.

East Valley
The May Flower Dog Park is less then 30 minutes away from Pauma Valley and a great spot to take Fido to run around off-leash and meet some new friends. The park is fenced in and offers 1.5-acres of play areas for dogs to enjoy. The park has three different spaces for dogs to play in, which is great if your dog is a little timid and needs time adjusting to the playful dogs in the park. The park is filled with grass, so you and Fido can have a nice game of fetch, and they even provide clean-up bags for you. Don’t forget to bring some water for your furry friend to enjoy.

Temecula Ranchos
The Temecula Dog Exercise Area in Temecula is a short drive away from Pauma Valley, and a great spot for you and your furry friend to visit together. Locals love that the park is always clean and has plenty of shade for the dogs to stay cool on the super-hot days. The dog park has two separate areas for dogs to play in, which makes it easier for less social dogs to get their off-leash exercise too. Remember to bring plenty of water for your dog to drink, and clean-up bags with you so nothing gets left behind. Locals also warn to keep an eye out for hawks that could be lurking by the park and can threaten smaller pups.
