Carlsbad, California, is truly a sight to behold. This large ocean side resort has a population of over an 110,000 - not including the tourists - and is located at the Pacific shoreline. Carlsbad is an animal loving community with special rules to preserve the local wildlife and several amenities and attractions for pet owners.
Dog lovers are in for a "treat" (see what we did there with the play on words?) in Carlsbad, California, as there are not one but two off-leash dog parks in town. The off-leash dog park in the Alga Norte Community Park is the largest park of the two and not only offers an enclosed environment for dogs to play in but also has an obstacle course which is a great way for dogs to get rid of any leftover energy. Instead of grass, the dog park has surfaces made of turf and decomposed granite.
The other dog park in town is the Ann D. L'Heureux Memorial Dog Park, which was the first off-leash dog park in Carlsbad. This smaller park offers water fountains and benches to sit on but is smaller than the other park. Unfortunately for some dog lovers, there is no designated separate area for small dogs.
There is a large amount of hotels in the city as Carlsbad is a favorite destination among tourists. A good number of these resorts and motels are pet-friendly as well. There are the more luxurious options such as the Sheraton resort as well as more budget-friendly choices such as the La Quinta Inn.
And if you missed something on your shopping list, you can go pick it up together with Fido at the Carlsbad Premium Outlets. Dogs can join shoppers here as long as they are on a leash.
East Carlsbad is home to one of the best dog parks you will ever come across, Ann D. L’Heureux Memorial Dog Park. The park itself is large enough for your dog to run some laps and tire himself out without you losing sight of him. The park has many regulars that visit a few times a week so don’t be surprised if you and your furry friend make a few new friends. Furthermore, because this park is well equipped to deal with all types of dogs, feel free to leave the leash at home! Let your dog run to his heart’s content!
Situated right next to the largest water source in Carlsbad is the famous Maxton Brown Park. This park is a large grass land that has a winding paved trail. Although it is not simply a dog park, it welcomes all animals including dogs. The park has many benches and chairs for pet owners. You will see many dog owners along the trail resting on benches. Make a day of it by taking some snacks, books and dog toys to the park with you! You are guaranteed to have a pawsome time at Maxton Brown Park! Just don’t forget the leash and baggies to clean up after your canine companion!
At one time or another, who hasn’t wanted to put on roller blades and walk their dog? This beloved California 1970’s tradition has been kept alive in South Carlsbad through Poinsettia Park. This park has everything you could ever dream of. It is home to picnic areas, baseball fields, basketball courts, tennis courts, playgrounds and clean bathrooms. It has a designated area for dogs as well as a paved winding trail within the park. Take your rollerblades, running shoes or skateboard, and your dog will have the time of his life trying to keep up with you on the trail!
Everyone knows California is one of the most beautiful places on earth. The sandy beaches and warm weather are only a few things that make it a coveted location. You’ll find all those things and more in Oceanside, just a 10-minute drive from Carlsbad. Oceanside is also home to the San Diego Humane Society and SPCA Dog Park. Unlike other dog parks, this is divided not by dog size but by activity level. This way your larger and smaller dogs can play in the same area if they are comfortable enough. Furthermore, the park has a lot of seating for dog owners. All you have to do is take a few dog toys and your dog will be ecstatic the whole day!
Although this is a ten-mile drive from Carlsbad, it is well worth it! Encinitas is not only home to delicious food and culture but it also has one of the best dog parks in the area, the Hawk View Park. This park has plenty of playgrounds and open spaces for children and dogs. Because the land is a little sloped, it is a great place to get some exercise in! Many dog owners tend to go to the park with friends to BBQ and relax while their dogs socialize and play with each other. You will not regret your decision to visit Hawk View Park!
