Encinitas Central
The City of Encinitas offers a plethora of activities, food, drink and shopping for humans and their canine companions to enjoy. The Maggie Houlihan Memorial Dog Park is a 2-acre off-leash dog park that is part of the 44-acre Encinitas Community Park. It has two areas for large and small dogs, as well as a watering station. Village Park Off-Leash Trail allows your pup to walk the trail off-leash. Just make sure to clean up after them! Seaside Bazaar is a marketplace where you and your leashed pup can see the sights, listen to good music, enjoy food, beverages, and the opportunity to socialize with other dog lovers.

Cardiff
The Cardiff neighborhood offers plenty of shopping, dining and entertainment, and also provides access to the gorgeous San Elijo State Beach. San Elijo is a stretch of coast with a nearby reef that divers and snorkelers can take advantage of. Dogs can enjoy a walk on the coast, but must be kept on their leash, and they are not allowed in the ocean. If you or your pup aren’t in the mood for sand and the beach, Glen Park has plenty of open space, picnic areas and several walking trails your leashed pooch can enjoy!

Solana Beach
This Californian neighborhood offers tons of shopping, dining and entertainment, and also has the San Elijo Lagoon Trail in its backyard. San Elijo Lagoon Trail is a 3-mile hike smack dab in the middle of the San Elijo Ecological Reserve, putting it close to the lagoon. This makes for a great opportunity to view the local wetland plants and birds! Solana Beach hosts many dog-friendly activities, including A Chihuahua Fiesta, which is an event that brings all the local chihuahuas in the area for some playtime and refreshments. The Pooch Party & Art Show Fundraiser is an art exhibit that features paw paintings by pooches that are looking for homes.

Olivenhain
This large neighborhood gives doggies and their owners access to Village Park Trail, where Fido will surely find more than enough smells and sights to enjoy! The trail does allow dogs to be off-leash, but please practice caution because it is not fenced in. Willow Creek Stables is another fun activity you can bring your dog along fle. While you’re on a guided horseback ride, they have an off-leash, shaded dog area where they provide water, care and supervision. Firenze and Bentley’s Steak and Chop House are local dog-friendly restaurants that allow your pooch to chill out on their patios.

Rancho Ponderosa
Rancho Ponderosa in Carlsbad also has close access to the Village Park Trail, which is a gorgeous nature trail that allows dogs to be off-leash. Practicing caution is advised because it is not fenced in. There is a local PETCO, and the Bushfire Kitchen restaurant hosts an event called “Rides for Rescues” which is a charity dinner with all proceeds going to help purchase vehicles to transport dogs from high-kill shelters to adoption events, vet appointments, and other therapy-focused activities. Feeling hungry? Casa de Bandini and Crust Pizzeria are local restaurants that allow humans and their canine companions to hang out on the patio.
