I just moved to San Diego from Connecticut, and was looking for for a good way to meet new dogs and explore the area. I’ve had 8 dogs throughout my life, from Rottweiler to Golden Retriever to Shih Tzu, and I used to volunteer at an animal shelter in Connecticut. I’ve been walking dogs for as long as I have been walking myself, and they are by far my favorite creatures!

Hi. I am originally from Texas but have lived in La Jolla for 18 years. My love for animals started at a very young age, as I grew up around horses, cows, goats and plenty of dogs. I have had Great Danes, Beauviers, Labs, German Shepherds, etc. Presently, I have a Havanese, a Maltipoo and a Schnauzer. I don't have kids so my pups are my world and I spoil them rotten. God gave me a special ability to be able to read dogs and make them feel comfortable and at ease. I was a personal trainer and avid runner most of my life, so I really enjoy running, walking and playing with all dogs!

Dog Walking in Miramar

Miramar is a northeastern neighborhood of San Diego, CA. Since it’s on the outskirts of a massive city, Miramar has plenty of dog-friendly activities and almost forty vet clinics available within five miles.

If you want to stay in the San Diego area, check out Mira Mesa Community Park (just three miles north). This park has a recreation area, a playground, and hosts countless cultural events throughout the year. There’s plenty of parking, and dogs are welcome!

Two popular activities can be found in nearby Santee, CA. You can find Mast Park just 14 miles east of Miramar -- just look for the park set on the banks of the San Diego River. This area is a prime fishing spot, so furry friends are allowed off-leash only in the park’s safe, enclosed play area. If you’re in the mood for a hike, nearby lies the Cowles Mountain Trail. Tucked in Mission Trails Regional Park, this five-mile hike is a great way to get some moderate exercise with Fido.

For a bite to eat after your long day together, bring your pooch to the Good Seed Food Company. This no-waste kitchen offers American fare with an international twist, and pups are welcome on the outdoor dining patio.

Don’t miss out on these (and other) countless activities available in west Cali!

Miramar, California is part of San Diego County. San Diego is a very dog-friendly city. Part of this is because of restaurants like Lazy Dog Café. This doggie-themed restaurant encourages you to bring your dog out for a special dinner together. They have a great menu, but the separate doggie menu is what makes them more than just fur-friendly. You can choose your dog’s favorite meal from their very own menu, and both meals will arrive at the same time! The seating is dog-friendly as long as your pawesome pal is on a leash.

Mission Bay has been set aside for Fido to get off his leash and just play. Fiesta Dog Park enhances the experience of the area by giving him sand dunes to climb, run, and dig on. If Fido feels so inclined, he can go for a quick dip in the calm waters. This park boasts that it’s the only off-leash dog park in the area that allows Fido to run and play with you, even in the water. It is located on the backside of Sea World, which adds to the uniqueness of the beach. Don’t forget to bring drinking water.

This is where you will find The Original Dog Beach. If you are looking for a great social spot for you and your dog, this is the place to be. The entire section of the beach, located at the northern end of Ocean Beach, is set aside and safe for Fido to run and play. There are always lots of dogs and people to play with. Parking can be a little difficult to find, though. It is recommended that you park near the Dog Beach Dog Wash, about two blocks in, so that you can rinse off Fido before getting back in the car.

The half-mile Cabrillo Tide Pools Trail leads you to the gorgeous tide pools. This is the only dog-friendly part of Cabrillo National Park. Your dog will need to stay on a leash by your side for the duration of your visit. The trail is lined with lots of natural scenery and beautiful ocean views. You never know what you might see in the water, from birds to whales and everything in between. Bring your dog and spend an hour or so in nature. Don’t forget to bring plenty of drinking water. Sorry, but there is no swimming for the fur babies in this area.

Nate’s Off Leash Dog Park is just the right place to go if Fido wants to run and play in the San Diego area. The whole area is completely fenced in so that you can be sure that your dog will not get lost. There are tons of shady sitting areas. The people here are attentive to the pups, which make the whole atmosphere feel friendlier. This park is very well taken care of and voted one of the top parks in the country. Come run, play, and meet some new friends. This is an experience like few other dog parks in the state.
