San Luis Rey is an unincorporated community in San Diego County stretching along the San Luis Rey River and located 4 miles northeast of downtown Oceanside. The community has plenty of opportunities to hike with Fido, enjoy the Californian weather, and dine in the city center at one of the many cafes with outdoor tables along San Luis Rey Mission Expressway. There are four veterinary hospitals here to take care of the local pups and keep their owners happy.

San Luis Rey River Trail is an obvious choice for every visitor with a pup! Running for about 9 miles along the San Louis Rey River, the trail is smooth and flat, which is perfect for beginners or those who do not want to challenge themselves a lot. San Luis Rey Bike Trail, on the opposite side of San Luis Rey, is a bicycle- and pedestrian-friendly trail. Your puppy can accompany you on-leash, and you can access the trail from multiple spots.

Enjoy traditional American fare at one of the many pet-friendly outdoor tables in Johnny Rockets at Mainside Center, or savor a hot slice of pizza at Tony Pepperoni, an Oceanside café with a pet-friendly patio.

Your pup will fall in love with Oceanside Dog Park, a pet-friendly facility on San Luis Rey Drive, operated by North Community Humane Society. Let your mutt run off-leash, dig up the turf, and chase a few new friends in the fenced terrain.
