Dog Walking in Surfside
Surfside, California, otherwise known as Surfside Colony, isn’t technically a city. It’s actually a residential gated community located in Seal Beach, California. Founded in 1929 as an oceanside resort community, the area still remains pretty exclusive. There are only 456 people living there, and there are only 256 houses! One other interesting fact about Surfside is that the post office refuses to deliver mail to its residents; instead, each home is assigned a post office box where they can retrieve their own mail.
Because Surfside is such an exclusive community, there isn’t much to do if you’re looking to have some dog-friendly fun. You can always take your dog for a walk along the streets and the beach, as the community is pretty quiet. However, if you’re looking for dog-friendly restaurants, dog parks, and even veterinarians, you’ll have to visit the nearby cities of Seal Beach or Huntington Beach; both have a wide variety of options for you and your canine companion. Don’t fret too much, though; the farthest away either of these cities are is fifteen minutes, so you won’t have to travel far at all! Having fun with your pup is just a hop, skip, and jump -- or short drive -- away.

If you’re looking for somewhere to eat with your dog, make sure to visit Brix Sunset Beach in Huntington Beach! This restaurant is located less than a mile from Surfside, so you even have the option to walk there. Brix serves up classic American fare, with the most popular dish being a pastrami sandwich called the “Fuhgeddaboudit.” Dog-friendly tables are limited, though; there are only three, so you might want to call ahead to check that a table is available. A leash is required, as is good behavior -- by both you and your furry friend.

Located less than ten minutes from Surfside, in Seal Beach’s Bridgeport neighborhood, is the San Gabriel River Trail. If you and your dog like going for long walks, this trail is perfect for you. It’s very long, coming in at just over 38 miles! San Gabriel River Trail takes you through a variety of terrains, so make sure to wear comfortable shoes when you go walking with your dog. There’s some water available for your pet along the trail, but make sure to bring extra. Your dog must stay on his leash on the trail.

If your pup enjoys having fun under the sun, make sure to take him to Rosie’s Dog Beach! Located about five miles from Surfside, Rosie’s gives your dog the chance to have some fun off his leash while splashing about in the ocean. You’ll want to bring some waste disposal bags to clean up after your pup, as none are provided, and you’ll need to bring some fresh water with you. You’re only allowed to have one dog per person at a time, so keep that in mind if you have multiple canine companions.

If you and your dog are looking for another dog beach to have a ball at, visit Huntington Dog Beach! It’s about a fifteen-minute drive from Surfside, but your dog will certainly be howling his appreciation. Give your dog the chance to make some pawesome new friends while splashing around in the water or digging in the sand -- bonus points if he manages to make a sandcastle! You’ll need to bring waste disposal bags, and please make sure to clean up after your dog. No one wants to step in anything!

Your pet is sure to have a furtastic time at Huntington Beach Best Friend Dog Park! This popular bark park is located within Huntington Central Park, about twenty minutes from Surfside. There’s agility equipment for your dog to play on, making sure he gets out any excess energy. Water fountains are available to make sure Fido doesn’t get overheated. Shaded seating is available for pup parents, whether you’re on the side of the park for small dogs or the side for large dogs. Waste disposal bags are not provided, so please bring your own.
