Westminster has grown from a tiny colony to a bustling town in just over a hundred years. Like many cities where people love dogs, it’s grown to meet their needs: you can take your pup to any of eight Westminster vets. The area’s rich history will entertain any human, but dogs just aren’t as interested in the founding of our country. A tidbit that will prick up their ears? Dogs can join you outside at Original Tommy’s Hamburgers for lunch or dinner at a classic Westminster favorite. It’s tail wagging good!
If you’re looking for a fun way to pass the time, head to Russell C Paris Park. This on-leash only park is pupular with locals, ensuring that your dog can meet a friend or two on their walks. If you want something quieter, head to Cascade Park instead. This small family park is usually quiet, making it perfect for dogs who need a more zen walk to be happy.
At the end of the day, curl up with your pup at a Westminster hotel. Big dogs are allowed without a pet fee at the Motel 6 Westminster North and the Motel 6 Westminster South.
Little Saigon is so named because this Westminster neighborhood is the heart of Orange County’s Vietnamese population, the largest such population outside of Vietnam. In addition to the local history, this neighborhood boasts two parks great for walking your dog. Start in the quiet Newcastle Park for green space and room to walk your leashed dog. This park is simple and small, but great for a brisk walk. If you want something busier, try Westminster Park instead. This park features sports fields and more room. Your dog still has to be on leash, but with plenty to see and sniff, it’s a stimulating walk!
West Garden Grove, a neighborhood of Garden Grove, CA, is just two minutes from Westminster. It’s also home to Garden Grove Park and Dog Park, an amazing place to let your dog run and play. Head through the trails of the busy, multi-use human park to find Garden Grove Dog Park inside! This fenced in grassy area is perfect for pups who need to kick up their heels and explore off leash. There are some benches for humans, but you’re going to want to bring your own water and a bowl for your buddy. There are drinking fountains in the main park, but they’re for people.
Garden Park is a Garden Grove neighborhood just eight minutes from Westminster, and home to the Arbor Dog Park. This park has everything your pup needs for a great time. There are separate areas for large and small dogs. It’s fully fenced, so your pup can roam off leash. It’s also a large park, so dogs who love to run can work off their energy. The large dog areas have water fountains, so if you have a small pal, bring a bowl for him to get quenched. This Garden Park gem is worth the short drive!
If you’re looking for a huge park where your dog can really burn some energy, hop in the car and make the 12 minute drive from Westminster to Oak View, a neighborhood in Huntington Beach. Huntington Central Park is a 350-acre area with amazing walking trails, grassy meadows, and more. Follow these trails deep into the center, and you’ll find the Central Park Dog Park! This area is divided into large and small breed areas, each of which is fully fenced. There’s wood chip ground covering, shaded seats for humans, and plenty of room for dogs of any size to roam! Just make sure your pup is comfortable in a busy space, because this park is the bark of the town!
